International Affairs |
This interview highlights the disconnect between the perspectives and aspirations of ordinary people in the Arab World with the conventional wisdom about this in American society and government leadership. This reminds me of my own experience trying to get government bureaucrats in Washington, London, Paris and Brussels to understand the emerging disaster in Rwanda before the genocide, and the wrong policy direction for Afghanistand and Pakistan after the Soviet army had withdrawn from Afghanistan. A new era of international collaboration is, however, possible as modern technology makes good information ubiquitous. |
