OccupyWallStreet ... Wikileaks

A WikiLeaks van gets towed at OccupyWallStreet in New York ... why do the 1% not like WikiLeaks?

COMMENTARY
I spent a few minutes talking with the people manning the WikiLeaks van at OccupyWallStreet in Liberty Park, Manhattan last Friday. I am sorry to see that they were towed away at some point after this.

The idea that Bradley Manning has been incarcerated for months without trial for letting some information flow into the WikiLeaks system is disgusting. If the material that was 'leaked' was of such importance, how come so much was accessible to anyone, let alone a relatively junior member of the organization. It suggests a level of incompetence in the government that should be of huge concern to society as a whole.

I have been involve with corporatew business and the international field of relief and development for several decades. The need for transparency is obvious ... many people and organizations talk about transparency ... but it is only WikiLeaks and other whistle blowers that put themselves at risk are doing anything about it.

For me, one huge issue is the secret nature of most of government ... secret enable incompetence to go unchecked. It is high time there was some clear thinking about the purpose of all the activities of government, and meaningful efforts to improve the productivity of government activities.

I expect that OccupyWallStreet will soon have a group that takes on the issue of transparency and accountability so that the 1% are no longer at liberty to loot the 99%
