COMMENTARY A film like this is thought provoking, but they tend to miss what to me is an important point. In my view the American entrepreneur has been a driver of American wealth, and also a driver of global progress (especially in technology), but the system has not done enough to improve the quality of life for non-entrepreneurs. This is a system problem, not a class problem. My hope is that we can start looking not only at the dynamic of personal money wealth, but also at the social value impact and quality of life. This is NOT about redistributing wealth, but of structuring economic activity so that there is more opportunity to improve quality of life. Peter Burgess |
This 80-minute documentary focuses on the growing 'wealth gap' in America, as seen through the eyes of filmmaker Jamie Johnson, a 27-year-old heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical fortune. Johnson, who cut his film teeth at NYU and made the Emmy®-nominated 2003 HBO documentary Born Rich, here sets his sights on exploring the political, moral and emotional rationale that enables a tiny percentage of Americans - the one percent - to control nearly half the wealth of the entire United States. The film Includes interviews with Nicole Buffett, Bill Gates Sr., Adnan Khashoggi, Milton Friedman, Robert Reich, Ralph Nader and other luminaries.
