Human Exploitation
Slavery: A 21st Century Evil

Shine a light on slavery ... some dialog about the issue

COMMENTARY

Peter Burgess

Shine a light on slavery

Why, hundreds of years after it was legally abolished, does slavery persist? In our last episode we will pose this question, and others, to a panel of those who direct or seek to influence government policies throughout the world. We want to know what questions you would like to hear them answer. Simply fill in the form to submit your questions or comments and we will put them to our panel in an open public debate.

My initial feed into the discussion

The modern capitalist market economy has one simple rule ... it it makes money profit, invest in it. There is no dimension of ethics or morality. A new era value market economy would have a supplementary rule ... and make 'valueadd' being the increment to quality of life of 'the people' or the community. Satisfying needs for human life and human dignity are far more important in the quality of life equation than mere money profit ... the Occupy Movement understands this, as do most people (the 99%) of good will!
