Subject: [TheBlackList] REFLECTIONS ON HUMPTY DUMPTY
REFLECTIONS ON HUMPTY DUMPTY
By Kwa David Whitaker
Humpty Dumpty, the 15th century English term denoting fat or obese, provides the perfect metaphor for America’s gluttonous nature and its present economic predicament. Historically, Humpty Dumpty referred to a very large canon that was strategically positioned atop St Mary’s Church to protect Colchester’s Parliamentarian stronghold during the English Civil War. When a canon shot weakened the wall beneath Humpty the canon came crashing down and the Royalists, ‘all the kings men’, could not reposition Humpty, even with the help of ‘all the kings horses’.
Like Humpty Dumpty, Americans have strategically positioned its politicians for protection in the face of attack. Today, the nation is under economic siege and we ask two fundamental questions. Where are the king’s men? Where are the king’s horses?
Regrettably, as the world seems to be teetering on total collapse, America’s politicians seem more concerned with finger pointing and self-serving rhetoric than solving problems. The increasing radio, Internet and satellite perspectives results in an information overload without any clear sense of what is really going on and, more importantly, why. This commentary hopes to provide an easily understood framework concerning national-global issues and how they impact our daily lives.
It is undeniable that the United States can boast of significant accomplishments in many areas, including its military superiority, advancements in medicine, transportation, social infrastructure and space exploration--to name a few. What is also undeniable, although unknown to all but a small minority, is the fact that these achievements are due not just to Americans’ rugged individualism, ingenuity or creativity, as we are taught. To the contrary, these successes also rest upon a firm and unflattering foundation of domestic oppression, national imperialism and global exploitation. How can I say this?
First, 250-plus years of free labor from the diabolic enslavement of Africans jump-started America’s development and fueled Europe’s resurrection. This socio-economic advantage was reinforced by the harsh domination and eventual displacement of America’s indigenous population. Generations of immoral and inhumane plantation servitude, deceptive treaties, discriminatory legislation and cruel public policies galvanized the second-class status of those considered undesirable while ensuring privilege and prosperity for the ‘haves’ and perpetual agonizing misery for the ‘have-nots’.
Second, and most important, is the fact that the American population (300 million) is less than 5% of the global population (7 billion) yet Americans consume nearly 80% of all global resources. This insatiable appetite allows Americans to boast of a life style that is unknowingly subsidized by the massive suffering of its non-industrialized neighbors. Adding insult to injury, Americans arrogantly characterize its victims as undeveloped, backwards and somehow responsible for and deserving of their Third World plight. Given this disparity in numbers verses need America would never consider purchasing resources at fair market value as this would bankrupt the country and strengthen the economies of some of its most hated adversaries. Therefore, America feels compelled to refine and expand the deceptions it uses to secure natural and other resources that support the illusion of its independence, progress, prosperity, leadership and greatness.
Third, to avoid implosion, the American economy requires continuous growth opportunities and credible enemies to satisfy its insatiable greed and to justify its imperialist pursuits. This, in large part, is the secret rationale for maintaining America’s massive military arsenal and its ever-expanding global interests. Now that the country is fully developed (and in need of significant repair) America desperately seeks foreign territories to expand its presence and to avoid facing the reality that it is a very small part of the world’s population in need of massive, cheap imports to maintain its image. Calming unsophisticated voters at home and suppressing growing protests abroad represents a significant political dilemma. On one hand, America’s professed values do not permit the outright taking of others’ resources. On the other, America’s refusal to be honest with its own citizens prohibits realization of the transparency that elected representatives promise but can’t afford to deliver. The preferred American strategy has always been covert. As one example, the American people are unaware that a great number of the world’s most despised dictators acquired their tyrannical skills right here in Georgia’s School of the Americas! Once in power, these American trained dictators protected America’s interest without the appearance of direct American involvement. This and other diversions are a significant part of the geo-politics to avoid the truth concerning America’s greed and its role in the cyclical conflicts that erupt around the world. While politicians constantly say that others hate our democratic values, this is not the case at all--they actually hate the governmental policies that support America’s greed and exploitation and the human suffering that these policies cause their citizens.
Fourth, going forward, competition for and control over America’s lifeblood (oil) will be affected by China’s emergence as a world power, India’s continued growth, Cuba’s resilience to sanctions, Iran’s defiance of everybody, Japan’s nuclear catastrophe and a whole host of unknown Middle East developments. The only option--short of divulging the truth and making the systemic changes to live within its means--is for America to maintain the military superiority that will permit the taking of needed resources. More and more, we see evidence of America’s willingness to do just that. Despite these efforts, America will continue to lose ground. Why?
Fifth, Viet Nam caused a serious blemish to America’s image, and exposure of the School of America’s dictator training, along with America’s cozy relationships with the likes of Ben Laden, Saddam Hussein and others has made it worse. Compounding the problem is the fact that many nations realize they have been abused by their leaders-many of whom served as United States alter egos-and they now seek fundamental and immediate change. Even if America can repair its image it will not avoid the mounting pressures of the expanding European economic crisis, the unending Israel-Palestine conflict, the collapse of American-backed Egypt, the aftermath of Libya, or the dangerous uncertainties of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria--just to name a few. America already spends 40% of the total combined military budget for the world. The projected military cost for America to become the global police force is astronomical and the potential loss of American
life, even with the use of drones, is incomprehensible.
The facts are irrefutable and the projections are dire. America is truly at a crossroads where it must embrace a new course of honesty, transparency and fundamental change and abandon the insanity of maintaining the status quo. Five percent of the world can’t expect to continue consuming eighty percent of the world’s resources without consequences. To think otherwise is morally indefensible, socially irresponsible, fiscally unsustainable and ultimately suicidal.
Notwithstanding these implications, the historical record confirms that American leadership-from the slave-owning Founding Fathers to the present-has never adopted truth, integrity and transparency as guiding principles. Predictably, absent some incredible political epiphany or the massive ingestion of a political truth serum, Humpty’s fall is inevitable. We ask again. Where are the king’s men? Where are the king’s horses?

Free Kanye:
Are Rappers Political Prisoners?
TRUTH Minista Paul Scott
'I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you'
Words I Never Said - Lupe Fiasco
People from across the country traveled for hours to attend the December rally in Chicago to demand the freedom of their beloved comrade in struggle. For hours, speaker after speaker pounded on the podium demanding that their brother be released so that he could, once again, be free to speak truth to power as the crowd chanted wildly. They weren't chanting 'Free Mumia' or 'Free Mutulu.' Nah, they were chanting 'Free Kanye!'
Despite the title of Kanye West's 2004 cd 'College Dropout' and the follow up 'Late Registration,' both were hailed, by many , as the return of politically conscious lyrics to the mainstream. With songs like 'All Falls Down' and 'Diamonds from Sierra Leone,' if Kanye wasn't the second coming of Chuck D, in a rap world dominated by the Ying Yang Twins, he was close enough. Expectations were lifted even higher when he made the infamous post Hurricane Katrina observation that 'George Bush don't like black people.' But then something strange happened on the Road to Revolution, Kanye's lyrics were suddenly depoliticized and dumb downed. Nowadays, Kanye is more known for corny catch phrases and snatchin' mics from lil country girls at award shows than political wit.
Of course, Kanye isn't the only one. After all, Common's latest song isn't exactly droppin' science, either. But Kanye is killing the game, right now, as he is leading the pack in Grammy nominations, making him the biggest waste of talent at the moment.
While some may argue that West and the others just had creative changes of direction, others say that they are victims of the same political repression that has plagued radical thinkers for centuries. History books are full of examples of people who were imprisoned, exiled or assassinated for their ideas.
Historically, oppressive, ideological societies have hated free thinkers. Even Galileo was locked down in 17th century Italy for teaching Heliocentrism (the sun is the center of the Universe). So, free thinkers have always been a threat to the status quo because of their potential to free the minds others.
In America, the persecution was no different.
According to Dr. Charsee McIntyre, in 'Criminalizing the Race,' the colonization movement to deport free blacks to Africa was started because free blacks 'served as models of Freedom to enslaved blacks and inspired resurrections. '
It must be noted that the threat of radical idealists within the music industry has also been a thorn in the side of the establishment.
In his book 'The Covert War Against Rock' Alex Constantine alleges that the deaths of singers such as Peter Tosh, John Lennon and Bob Marley were really well orchestrated, politically motivated assassinations to silence them.
Perhaps the greatest threat to the social order has been Hip Hop. John Potash, in his book, 'The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders' gives a rundown of artists who experienced government repression not because of club jams but because of their political activities. The book raises the issue that Tupac Shakur's gangsta turn after being sentenced to life on Death Row Records after his release from prison may not have been a coincidence. Perhaps it was just a plot to render one of the most potentially, powerful voices to ever pick up a mic, politically impotent and socially irrelevant.
We must understand that even while in the slammer, freedom fighters such as Dr. Martin Luther King (Letter From the Birmingham Jail) and George Jackson (Soledad Brothers) still managed to get their words to the masses. Also, Mumia Abu-Jamal has still been able to smuggle information to the people by reporting 'Live From Death Row.' The difference is, unlike many Hip Hop artists, they would not allow their minds to become incarcerated.
Although, some may consider comparing Hip Hop artists like Kanye West to political prisoners like Mumia and Mutulu Shakur ,blasphemous, when we consider that political incarceration is about locking down the mind more so than the body the connection is clear. While many acts of political repression have been carried out with guns and chains, in Hip Hop, it has been done by a signature on a contract. There is little difference between someone sentenced to a 10 year prison bid and someone being confined to a 10 year recording deal that restricts their freedom of speech in terms of their relevance to oppressed communities.
This idea is not without precedence. Lupe Fiasco has been outspoken about the industry's attempt to 'dumb em down.' Also, it was once rumored that former G Unit soldier, Young Buck had to remove a song about police brutality from his cd because of pressure from a mysterious 'lyric committee.'
Unfortunately, it is not just the artists that are in mental prisons but fans as well. As every time a rapper enters into a mental prison, he carries a legion of followers with him.
So, the question is how do we free Hip Hop artists and consequently, free the minds of their fans.
According to Peter Doggett, in his work, 'There's a Riot Going On,' back in the 60's, activists formed the Dylan Liberation Front (later the Rock Liberation Front) to 'liberate' artists, like Bob Dylan, who they felt had turned their backs on the struggle and 'sold out to the man.'
Maybe, in 2011, we need a Kanye Hip Hop Liberation Front to do the same.
After all, if Jadakiss and his crew could stage a successful 'Free the Lox' campaign back in the day to get released from Bad Boy , why can't we politicize it and start a 'Free Kanye Campaign' to free him from Roc-a-fella.
Something has to be done to free incarcerated minds and it has to be done now.
As Bob Marley once sang 'Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.

Subject: [TheBlackList] Obama and the Rising US Police State
From The Ramparts
Junious Ricardo Stanton
Obama and the Rising US Police State
As the US rapidly devolves into a fascist police state, it should be abundantly clear to all but the hopelessly brain dead and fools that both political parties are in cahoots to accelerate our descent into a full fledged banana republic. Unfortunately too many black people remain hopeful (delusional?) President Barack Obama is somehow different from his immediate predecessors, that he will reveal his true mettle, stand up to the Kleptocracy and not sell us out to the corporate and financial elites. Sorry, any notion Obama is a man of courage or that he is on our side went down the toilet when Michigan Senator Carl Levin revealed on the floor of the US Senate during his speech supporting draconian aspects of the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act it was the Obama administration that ordered the wording in the bill that calls for the indefinite military detention of US citizens ! If you doubt what I’m saying go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLiKvSz_wX8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fsherriequestioningall.blogspot.com%2F2011%2F12%2Fsenator-levin-revealed-it-was-obama-who.html&feature=player_embedded and see it for yourself.
Wrap your mind around what Levin is saying, it was the Obama administration that asked the Senate to remove the language that precluded US citizens from being rounded up and detained without trial (in violation of the Fourth and Sixth amendments of the Bill of Rights of the US Constitution). Oddly enough the Senators removed the wording it at the request of the administration?!! What happened to the D.C. grid lock and partisan bickering? Oh I see, when it comes to the police state and supporting the one per cent the Senators are all on one accord. See what one British newspaper is saying about it all at http://www.ukprogressive.co.uk/op-ed-does-us-senate-commit-treason-with-ndaa-bill/article16137.html.
Little or nothing is being said about the National Defense Authorization Bill of 2012 in the US mind control apparatus. Unfortunately for us, there is even more alarming news not being reported about what is going on under this Obama administration. A recently leaked document from Kellogg Brown and Root a former subsidiary of the Halliburton Corporation (who got those no bid contracts for the iraq war) revealed they are in the process of executing their government contract to open FEMA detention centers and interment camps and they are looking to hire subcontractors to man the centers! This means the infrastructure is being put in place to detain and hold US citizens. If you doubt what I’m saying go to http://dprogram.net/2011/12/07/exclusive-government-activating-fema-camps-across-u-s/ and see the KBR notice for yourself. Why now, what’s up? Does the Occupy Wall Street movement pulling the covers off the endemic corruption and collusion between government, the banksters and the corporations have anything to do with the timing of this?
As we connect the dots we can see ominous patterns forming as local governments at the behest of the federal government crack down on dissent. The mayor of Oakland Jean Quan admitted during an interview she and eight other mayors were on a teleconference that encouraged a coordinated crack down of the Occupy Wall Street movements, protests, demonstrations in their cities. It was later discovered representatives from the Department of Homeland Security were in on those discussions. Lo and behold the raids all took place at 1 AM in the morning, they all involved local police in full combat riot gear sweeping in, demolishing the camps and confiscating the demonstrators belongings. During the raids around the country which also included college campuses, peaceful protestors were beaten, pepper sprayed and arrested by riot garbed police and campus security forces. Not one peep out of Eric Holder or Barack Obama about the abuse and mistreatment of US citizens. Obama is supposed to be an authority on the US Constitution.
Jon Corzine the former governor and US Senator from New Jersey and former head of Goldman Sachs took a job as head of MF Global Securities after he left office. Not only did he run it into the ground by sinking money in the European bond markets, MF Global was forced to declare bankruptcy. That’s not all. The firm also commingled their clients’ funds with their own money which resulted in the loss of between 600 million and 1.2 billion in customers funds! Have we seen Corzine in a orange jump suit doing the perp walk in front of cameras for the corporate media? Has Corzine even been charged despite obvious violations, ethical breaches and malfeasance?
Where is the SEC, DOJ on this? Why isn’t the government doing anything to investigate this and make Corzine an example? Because the SEC, DOJ, Eric Holder, Obama et al are part of the problem. They are in cahoots with the Kleptocrats. So don’t look for them to do a thing to stop this. Is MF Global the tip of the iceberg? Will there be more revelations about other missing money. Will other “investment” firms skip off with their client’s money? Keep in mind this is an ongoing bipartisan program of theft and pillage. Undoubtedly some of the 'lost' money was pension fund money might have been yours or mine.
On September 10, 2001 Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld held a press conference to announce over 2.3 trillion with a T was unaccounted for in Defense Department funds. If you doubt what I’m saying go to http://www.wanttoknow.info/050310pentagontrillionslost and see for yourself. Has anyone gone to jail for that? Was there a full investigation into that? Oh right, that was the day before 9-11 and everything changed after 9-11. Yes things have changed but have they changed for the better or worse? Add the DOD missing money to the billions for no bid contracts, crony capitalism on the bogus War on Terror AKA Corporate Welfare under the Bu regime, and the things going on under Obama; you can see an alarming trend here. Obama came on the set talking about change, has there been any real change? Are you better off under Obama today than you were under Bu? Are you more secure financially? Do you have more trust in the government?
How is it that police in riot gear descend on public space and university campuses to brutalize and disrupt peaceful demonstrations protesting against corporate greed, undue political influence and corruption while crooks like Jon Corzine who have run the economy into the abys go Scott Free?! Why are FEMA detention camps/centers being activated? What does this tell you about conditions in the US under Barack Obama? If you are part of the ninety-nine per cent you need to seriously think about this.

Subject: [TheBlackList] DID YOU KNOW THAT BLACK (NEGRO) SPIRITUALS ARE PLAYED ON THE : Piano Black Keys???
Hello All: I just received this from my cousin, who now resides in Orange County, CA. Thought I'd share it with you as well. The note that follows is addressed to him, but you can feel free to peek in on it as well. Stay Blessed - Gloria
Hey Cuz: Thanks so much for this. It was absolutely beautiful. I don't know whether you guys studied 'Negro Spirituals' at your school, in OKC, but we learned to sing them at Dunbar Elementary, Moon Jr. High, and Douglass Sr. High. We had Evelyn LaRue Pittman as our music teacher, and she wrote volumes on Black music. I was also a member of the glee club at Dunbar and at Moon, so I knew (and still know) almost all of them.
Anywaaaay, I remember that it was mandatory for us to know what each of the songs stood for and why they were used, since most 'Negro Spirituals' were code songs used to give directions and send messages - especially when we were escaping the plantation, or helping someone else escape.
'Amazing Grace' is a beautiful song, but it is not a 'Negro Spiritual'. Though it was definitely written by Newton because he saw the error of his ways and repented it did not fall in the range of code or instructions to those of us who were enslaved. Actually, the only reason it is even included in the 'Black' nomenclature is because of the fact that it was played on the Black keys, not because it was a signal or any kind of message song for us.
It should have been a message to the rest of the white slave monsters, but they were too greedy and too racist to pay attention. The fact that it is now included in modern music is because we have this new found love of 'gospel' music, and practically anything that sounds like it, gets play -- except for true 'Negro Spirituals'!!! Did you ever notice how seldom you actually hear or sing them?
It's because they were songs of rebellion - and still are!
Example: I got shoes
You got shoes
All God's chi'ren got shoes
When I get to heaven, gonna put on my shoes
And gonna walk all over God's heaven
Heav'm! Heav'm!
Everybody talkin' bout heav'm ain't goin' there!
Gonna Walk all over God's heav'm
'I got shoes' - Basically meant a new group was getting ready to escape up north
''Walk All over God's heaven - referred to the destination
'Everybody talking about heaven ain't going there' - meant that just because they
were singing about heaven in church, their true destination was somewhere in the north...... and so on. Each song had a meaning and a message.
I think Wintley Phipps has an amazing voice. I totally enjoyed his rendition of Amazing Grace. I remember the first time I learned that the song was written by a former slave monster; I was really relieved, because I couldn't relate to being called a 'wretch' - in my young mind (and my contemporary mind of today) I could not identify myself with anything wretched. But now that I know that Newton was referring to himself and his fellow slave monsters, it makes much more sense.
But Phipps really made that song come alive, didn't he? Powerful brother! It's what we do, though, put the soul and the power into whatever we turn our attention to. It's in our genes, right?
How are things by you and Alma; hello to Monty and the rest of the family.
Stay Blessed &
ECLECTICALLY BLACK

Piano Black Keys
This a good one!
At Carnegie Hall, gospel singer Wintley Phipps delivers perhaps the most powerful rendition of Amazing Grace ever recorded. He says, 'A lot of people don't realize that just about all Negro spirituals are written on the black notes of the piano. Probably the most famous on this slave scale was written by John Newton, who used to be the captain of a slave ship, and many believe he heard this melody that sounds very much like a West African sorrow chant. And it has a haunting, haunting plaintive quality to it that reaches past your arrogance, past your pride, and it speaks to that part of you that's in bondage. And we feel it. We feel it. It's just one of the most amazing melodies in all of human history.' After sharing the noteworthy history of the song, Mr. Phipps delivers a stirring performance that brings the audience to its feet!

I Celebrate Dr. Muriel Petioni: A Lady of Grace, Elegance and Style
by Gloria Dulan-Wilson
I was sad to learn of the passing of a living Legend into the realm of the Ancestors. Dr. Muriel Petioni, whom I considered a friend, and an inspiration, made her transition, recently, at the tender age of 97. And if I had not learned so much from her, and enjoyed being around her so much, I guess I would actually be in mourning.
But I have to admit, I had so many fond memories of Dr. Petioni that I think of her and I smile. Whenever and where ever she was, you knew you were in good company; you were at the right place, and you were definitely walking in high cotton.
Dr. Petioni always gracefully entered a room with that beautiful smile of hers, dressed as though she had just stepped out of Vogue; or had a wardrobe detail that followed her around making sure that she was dressed in the most elegant fashions - tailored for her tiny figure.
Her face was always framed with that beautiful silvery short french cut, and she breezed around the room greeting everyone, having small conversations, or involving in deep political or socially relevant issues.
As with her son Mal (a/k/a Charles), Woolfolk - who no doubt got that faculty from his mom -I could (and would) sit and talk with her for hours. We never covered the same subject twice. And it didn't matter if we hadn't seen each other for weeks or months, we always seemed to be able to pick up right where we left off from the previous conversation.
I totally adored that lady, because she let nothing get her down, and kept her hand in everything relevant; with that sharp mind of hers always turning its attention to something new to benefit the community and mankind. There was nothing that she was not interested in; and a great many programs and protocols she was instrumental in getting off the ground, just because we would not stop half way.
She kept up with the times, and was often very much ahead of them, as well. For example, we had a great ongoing conversation about autologus adult stem cells ( self-donated stem cells, not embryonic) and the next wave in curing such ills as arthritic knees, diabetes, kidney disfunctions. Her pet peeve is (oh, I mean, 'was') how the Black community tended to always be the last to know about medical breakthroughs; or would be afraid to try new protocols unless it appeared to be approved by whites. We discussed the future of medicine as it pertained to Black doctors, many of whom were also mired in the past; with some continuing to dispense outmoded medical treatments, as opposed to bringing innovations into the Black community.
Then we would move to our favorite ethnic (Black) designers - M-Sin (Marvin Sin) who makes wonderful Africentric designer handbags; or Moshood, the African designer. Dr. Petioni never went in for muted colors. She would show up in burnt orange silk, or electric blue, or deep burgandy reds. She was always elegant. 97??? Most folks think that when you're 97 you have blue hair, have a walking cane, orthotics, false teeth, and are doddering around with the considerable help of several people.
Not Dr. Muriel Petioni. You'd see her at the Schomburg Library one day, at Aaron Davis Hall the next, and at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building the next. You might catch her at a jazz session, or at a play. Most definitely at a reception or an awards benefit. She was out and about, all the time.
It was invigorating talking to that beautiful lady who had matured, not aged; who had, at 97, continued to make contributions to the world, and make the world sit up and take notice. Who would not be shunted aside into some dark corner as though she had outlived her usefulness; who was just as sharp at 97 as she was at 17. Who proved that age is just a number, life is a mindset, and being that beacon of light and blessing was not an option, but to her mandatory.
Harlem Hospital, people of Harlem, 100 Black Women, Black people of New York, and Black People the world over, have much to thank this beautiful little giant of a woman. She has joined the other goddesses who are now looking at us and saying - what are you going to do to keep this legacy going? Little feet with huge footprints that have been left behind for us to walk in, and we'd better get to stepping, because Dr. Petioni did not allow any half measures (I was going to say no 'Half stepping', but that would have been redundant, wouldn't it?)
Anyway, since I want to be like Dr. Petioni when I grow up, I have decided to start now being the me she always thought I was. And that means that I got a lot to do to make that happen. I certainly want to see 97 this side of the earth and making a contribution to my brothers and sisters as well. So I humbly pledge to be a better me so that I can get my big feet on the path of those tiny gigantic foot steps. I really celebrate the fact that I had the privilege of knowing Dr. Muriel Petioni.
My Blessings to Mal, Carol, and the rest of the family; as well as my condolences and love.
Stay Blessed &
ECLECTICALLY BLACK
