In a free society, there are choices.

The United States is constitutionally a 'free society' but freedom is constrained. I think it was John Stuart Mill that talked about liberty being constrained by the impact one person's liberty had on the liberty of someone else.

In the United States and around the world freedom and liberty are constrained by our ability to understand the system within which society and economy exist. It seems to me that we have created a construct that constrains rather than liberates ... in thought, word and deed.

I listen a lot to Bollmberg Radio ... a 24/7 radio broadcast that talks about the capital markets around the world and the economy that drives prices in these markets. I am fascinated by what gets talked about, but I am also appalled at the incredibly limited perspective of most of the reporters and commentators.

Most observers of economic history will probably agree that a capitalist market economic system succeeded where a communist totalitarian communist economic system did not ... but is that much of a race. To the extent that it was a race ... what was the point of the race anyway.
