to me
Dear Peter,
You're invited to join me on July 9 for a webinar on 'Arms Trade 101 and Intersecting Issues.' Hosted by Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) UK, this webinar will explore how the global arms trade intersects with other key issues of our time, including racism, colonialism, climate (in)justice, and militarised policing.
We will start the event with poetry from Yemeni poet Amina Atiq, based in Liverpool and move into our panel, chaired by Demilitarise Education's Melina Villeneuve. Joining me on the panel are Sham Murad ('A' is for Activism), Dr. Nadine El-Enany (Birkbeck University), and Dr. Kojo Koram (Birkbeck University).
What: Arms Trade 101 Webinar
When: Thursday, July 9 at 1:30pm-4:00pm Eastern Time (GMT - 4)
How to join: Register here for the Zoom link
War is a top cause of the erosion of civil liberties, a top justification of government secrecy, the basis for the militarization of local police, a catalyst for racism and bigotry, a top creator of refugees, and the reason humanity risks nuclear apocalypse. Militarism is a top destroyer of the natural environment, yet exempted from major environmental standards. Just a small portion of the amount of money spent on wars and militarism could end global hunger, provide clean drinking water, housing, healthcare, education, and a myriad of other needs. In sum, the institution of war is stopping us from achieving the just, peaceful, and green future that we want to see.
Join me on July 9 to talk about the global arms trade and its multi-faceted impacts, and the opportunities for intersectional organizing and coalition-building that connects the dots between these issues.
See you on Zoom,
