MILITARY ALLIANCES
NATO NATO exercise in the Baltic ... 7 British Warships approaching the zero-point for Russian threat Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_7Co6stowo Peter Burgess COMMENTARY I am not a military expert ... more an interested citizen. When I was young, around 12 years old I really wanted to join the Royal Navy and absorbed all I could about what it was the Navy did, We live about 30 miles from Plymouth and Devonport which was one of the major Navy bases in the UK. My parentts took me to the annual 'Navy Days' which enabled me to climb all over the great British ships of the day and see many of the skills of the sailors. This was in the early '50s when battleship power was in decline and naval air power was becoming all important ... as well as the submarine. Fast forward to now (2022) and I am well aware that the submarine is probably the most important weapon in the modern world and perhaps the least understood. Big surface ships project power while big submarines are power. In recent years the Royal Navy has built two aircraft carriers as well as new submarines. While the aircraft carriers are likely second to the US Navy carriers, I am fairly certain that the Royal Navy submarines are likely better than those of the USA and together will outclass the submarines of the Russian Federation and China ... hopefully. I don't ever want to find out. Peter Burgess | ||
