There are multiple threads of news informing the general public travelling along a large number of channels. The 'rules' that apply to the various channels are all different ... aggravated by the reality that many of the channels operate internationally with little or no coherent oversight. In many cases the 'news' is not news at all, but national propaganda. Much of modern socio-enviro-economic dysfunction has its roots in the widely help view that 'being profitable must be good'. Much of the media industry is privately owned in the 'for profit' sector of the economy. Nothing survives for very long in the for profit private sector unless the activities are 'profitable' and making the distribution of 'news' profitable means a selection process that is all about its profit potential and little about its importance as 'news'. Social media has been very successful in terms of investor profit by optimizing its algorithms for this goal and mostly ignoring the quality and characteristics of the content. In a world where it is all about profit, they are considered successful ... which is insane. David Gergen and Fareed Zakaria are serious people. Nevertheless their discussion has a focus on fault as they discuess President Biden ... which has some truth, but the discussion is too short to included the thousands of truths that are making it difficult for this President to do more ... or any President of the United States to do more.
