SANCTIONS
AIRCRAFT SPARES CRUX ... Russian Airlines Crippled By Sanctions ... Will Putin Be Forced To Use Military Planes For Civilians? Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9fqIBZjbHQ Peter Burgess COMMENTARY Sanctions are a pretty blunt instrument of international diplomacy ... or is it really simply another dimension of international war. The sanctions that the international community has placed on Russia and some of its high profile leaders have been more meaningful than anything that I can remember. I recognise that the impact of sanctions takes some time for the bite to be effective ... and the case of sanctions against Russian airlines is not going to be any different. The effectiveness of sanctions depends a lot on everyone doing their part. Their effectiveness drops when even just a few actors refuse to cooperate and they enable sanction avoidance. This is the norm rather than the exception and there is an important role for the media and the public to make it clear that corporate profit is not an acceptable justification for sanction busting. One of the very real weaknesses of sanctions is that in a 'connected world', a sanction against one country of group of countries has a blowback effect on the sanctioning parties ... there are all sorts of unintended consequences.
