Peter Burgess COMMENTARY
Running a big 'anything' is not easy ... there are many competing agendas, and many different points of view. It is really quite impressive that a big country like the USA has been reasonably well run for so long.

Of course, there will be different opinions about whether or not the country has been well run ... but that simply makes the point!

But there are times when the framing of the rules needs to be assessed anew. Some of the rules that were established in Philadelphia almost 250 years ago need to be modernised because all sorts of things and especially technology have changed.

During my career, I have wanted to see people and companies and countries to be held accountable for their actions in a meaningful way. I have been bothered by the way in which the world embraces 'might' as 'right', especially those entities that have power.

I am very uncomfortable with the logic of the arguments used to justify all sorts of inappropriate actions using the First Amendment or the Second Amendment to the US Constitution. At their core, these amendments are common sense, but they can be used in quite stupid ways to undermine a decent civil society. Over time, it is possible to game the system so that the checks and balances that were inserted into the US founding documents are no longer effective.

This does not happen quickly, but in my lifetime I see a slow but steady erosion of what I understand to have been the intention of the Founders.

Not only sad ... but very dangerous!

MSNBC supercut showcases right-wing reactions to Joe Biden's speech blasting Republican extremism

Conservative television commentators are not pleased with President Joe Biden's speech warning about the rise of extremism within the Republican Party and his reference to Trump's Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement as a form of “semi-fascism.”

In fact, some far-right Republicans are even demanding an apology from the president and wasted no time sharing their reactions to his remarks last night. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) even insisted that Biden was guilty of “slandering tens of millions of Americans as fascists.”

Now, according to HuffPost, the new supercut highlights the flurry of reactions to Biden's remarks.

On Thursday, September 1, the supercut was shared via Twitter by The Mehdi Hasan Show. With the clip, the show tweeted a quick breakdown of the scathing reactions to Biden's speech.

'The right-wing is happy to call Democrats fascists,' the show tweeted. 'But letting the left use that label for Republicans? Unthinkable! Why is the GOP so hurt when they’re linked to fascism? Maybe it’s because Dems are onto something, @[Mehdir Hasan] says.'

During his speech, Biden expressed concern about MAGA-inspired forces and their political agenda which involves taking the country back to a time period that no longer fits the dynamic of the country or the actual direction it is going in.

'MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards,' Biden said, 'backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.'

Now I do declare, that Joe Biden and his Sharp Tongue, may have given Republicans reasons to clutch their Pearls, and retreat to the fainting couch, by daring to call people who ban books, deny elections, and chant “Jews will not replace us” at their rallies, semi-facsists, because we all know they would never stoop so low as to demean us this way?

Oh and of course Fox news will always maintain the civility and decorum you expect from a major news organization.

And for some odd reason I don’t remember the media getting upset about this at all. It’s almost—god forbid—like their is some kind of double standard.
