ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
ESS-DIVE Introduction to Environmental System Science Data Infrastructure for a Virtual Ecosystem (ESS-DIVE). Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xmmF-8VbeI Peter Burgess COMMENTARY I wrote the following in the comments to the video. It probably will not get a response, but I tried. I have been interested in climate science and the environment for more than 50 years. My formal training was in engineering and economics at Cambridge as well as Chartered Accountancy in London ... but it was obvious as early as 1953 that issues around pollution and the environment were going to need addressing. Fast forward, my work with management metrics (TrueValuemetrics.org) has been progressing during the last 20 years and not getting that much traction yet. I am struck my the small amount of user interest in this video ... and maybe in others of the series. Silly videos get thousands of views and likes and go viral while important material remains unseen. What is the answer to this important problem? Serious people and especially the scientific community has a serious problem with communication that needs fixing ASAP!When I was getting my formal education more than 60 years ago, it was common for a person to 'specialize' at quite a young age. I rebelled against this and earned two undergraduate degrees ... one in engineering and one in economics, two quite different subjects. Later I added accountancy and qualified as a Chartered Accountancy. This gave me a much broader view of almost any subject than my contemporaries who were specialized in their single subject area.
