What is the value of Chaplaincy in a hospital or healthcare setting
The value of Chaplaincy in a hospital or healthcare setting is the improvement in health outcomes and quality of life for the patient. From the patient perspective the role of a spiritual dimension in anything and everything is variable, but the evidence seems to suggest that patients have better outcomes when they have the opportunity to interact with a Chaplain or equivalent.
The value from the perspective of the hospital is that there is a business case for having a Chaplain available for patients as well as the medical staff (doctors, nurses, etc).
The services of a Chaplaincy are also of benefit to the family and friends of a patient.
