Plastic Packaging becomes Pollution
This is not an unusual sight on most every beautiful beach on planet earth.
It is a scandal that plastic packaging, that has some important values, has become one of the biggest sources of global solid waste pollution.
This is an example of the fundamental dysfunction of the modern economy where corporate profit performance and return to investors is the dominant goal of almost all economic activity. Costs to society and the environment are ignored.
Better metrics that impute costs to all the lifecycle of plastic can made a difference. Many of the companies that produce and use plastic would be severely compromised if such costs were fully accounted for in their operations ... many would be bankrupt.
