Alison Tickell CEO, Julie's Bicycle
Alison set up Julie's Bicycle in April 2007. Before that she led the music consultation for the National Skills Academy, was the Music Director at Creative and Cultural Skills (which she helped set up) and prior to this had spent fifteen years developing the community music sector at Community Music. Alison is Associate Professor at Buckinghamshire New University, a member of the Events Supplement Working Group for the Global Reporting Initiative, and a founder participant on the United Nations Music & Environment Programme, 2010. Alison trained as a musician and teacher. Her advisory roles have included the Live Music Forum, Music Manifesto Steering Group, and the Music Business Forum. She is on the Board of Sound Connections.
Bronwyn Kunhardt Managing Director & Co-Founder, Polecat
Bronwyn co-founded Polecat in April 2007. Polecat provides software and solutions to Competitive Intelligence professionals in some of the world's companies. Bronwyn was previously Director of Citizenship and Diversity, on the Microsoft UK Board, where she focused on technical, policy and communications strategies to improve the societal impact of Microsoft in the UK for competitive advantage. Bronwyn has 11 years' experience in Microsoft and MSN, including roles such as Head of Image and Reputation and Group Programme Manager for MSN. Bronwyn has a BA in Theology and an MA in Social Anthropology and Development Economics.
Caroline Mason COO Big Society Capital
Before joining Big Society Capital as Chief Operating Officer, Caroline was Chief Operating Officer at Charity Bank and also the co-founder of Investing for Good, a social investment advisory firm and one of the first Community Interest Companies. Before, joining the social sector, Caroline had an eighteen-year track record of creative and innovative product development in the financial services sector. With Reuters, she managed the global development of real-time news and television services and then pioneered the introduction of web technology products. She also had her own consulting company, working with several financial institutions to develop new business and products including an electronic brokering service and a global wealth management business for a private bank. Caroline is a Board Member of Social Enterprise UK and of Ethex.
Casper ter Kuile CoFounder, UK Youth Climate Coalition
Casper is a social justice organiser committed to transforming how civil society organisations empower citizens in achieving justice and sustainability. He is the Co-Founder of the UK Youth Climate Coalition and a movement strategist at Common Cause, a project for Oxfam and WWF-UK. Casper has worked for Avaaz.org, Futerra Sustainability Communications, and the successful 'Save Our Forests' campaign for 38 Degrees. A graduate of the University of Warwick, he will join the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard later this year to study for a Master of Public Policy. In 2011 the World Economic Forum named him a Global Shaper.
Colin le Duc Partner, Generation Investment Management
Colin is a co-Founder and Partner of Generation Investment Management LLP, a London-based asset management firm focused on long term sustainable investing. He co-leads the firm's Climate Solutions Fund, a public and private equity fund focused on companies that are part of the solution to the climate crisis. Prior to Generation, he was a Director at Sustainable Asset Management with responsibility for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. He has also worked for Arthur D. Little and Total. His current Board positions are with Recyclebank, Infinate Power Solutions, TerraLUX, Business for Social Responsibility and Forest Trends. He is also a Board Observer at Nest. Colin has lived in 9 countries around the world and now lives in London with his young family.
David Blood Senior Partner, Generation Investment Management
David Blood is co-founder and Senior Partner of Generation Investment Management. Previously, he spent 18 years at Goldman Sachs including serving as co-CEO and CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management from 1999-2003. David received a B.A. from Hamilton College and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. David Orrell Author 'Economyths'
David Orrell is an applied mathematician and author of popular science books. He studied mathematics at the University of Alberta, and obtained his doctorate from Oxford University on the prediction of nonlinear systems. His work in applied mathematics has taken him to diverse areas including weather forecasting, economics, and cancer biology. He is principle of the consultancy Systems Forecasting. His books have been translated into eight languages, and include Apollo's Arrow, which was a national bestseller in Canada and a finalist for the 2007 Canadian Science Writers' Association book award; Economyths, which was a finalist for the 2011 National Business Book Award; and the forthcoming Truth or Beauty, on the relationship between science and aesthetics. He has also written research papers for peer-reviewed journals ranging from Nature Genetics to Physica D, and is on the editorial board of Foresight magazine. www.postpythagorean.com
David Stubbs Head of Sustainability for the London 2012
David Stubbs is Head of Sustainability for the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, a role he has held since joining the London 2012 Bid team in November 2003. In this role he is responsible for developing and coordinating the sustainability programme for the London 2012 Games. He is an internationally renowned specialist in the field of sport and environment. During the 1990s he was Director of the European Golf Association Ecology Unit and he established the first pan-European environmental management programme for golf courses. In 1998 he began advising the British Olympic Association on environmental matters and in 2000 he worked with the Environment Team at the Sydney Olympics. His career started in the field of conservation biology and he is a full member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and a Chartered Environmentalist.
Dimitri Zenghelis Senior Economic Advisor to Cisco
Dimitri Zenghelis is a Senior Economic Advisor to Cisco's long term innovation group. He is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute at the LSE and an Associate Fellow at Chatham House. Previously, he headed the Stern Review Team at the Office of Climate Change, London, and was a senior economist working with Lord Stern on the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, commissioned by the then Chancellor Gordon Brown. Before working on climate change, Dimitri was Head of Economic Forecasting and European Monetary Union Analysis at HM Treasury, providing regular briefings to the Chancellor and Prime Minister. He has also worked at Oxford Economic Forecasting, the Institute of International Finance, Washington DC, and Tokai Bank Europe, London.
Ian Yolles Chief Sustainability Officer Recyclebank
Ian oversees Recyclebank's sustainability agenda and is responsible for ensuring it is integrated into all aspects of the organization's brand strategy, consumer experience and partnerships. Prior to joining Recyclebank, Ian was a co-founder and Vice President of Marketing and Brand Communications at Nau, an innovative social venture apparel company in Portland, Oregon. Prior to Nau, Ian worked as a senior marketing executive at two of the most successful sports apparel companies in the world, Nike and Patagonia. At Nike, he served in a succession of roles including Director of Apparel Marketing, Director of Digital Marketing and Director of Brand Marketing. While at Patagonia, Ian was a member of the executive team and was responsible for product development, marketing and brand management across all distribution channels. Before joining Patagonia, Ian pursued his interest in innovative business practices as the Director of Social Inventions and member of the executive leadership team at The Body Shop Canada. During the early part of his career he merged his passion for the outdoors with his interest in human development working as the Executive Director of Outward Bound in Canada. Isabel Hilton Editor, Chinadialogue
Isabel Hilton is a London based writer and broadcaster, and founder and editor of www.chinadialogue.net, an innovative, fully bilingual Chinese English website devoted to building a shared approach on climate change and environmental issues with China. Based in London, with offices in Beijing and San Francisco, chinadialogue launched in 2006 and is now recognised as a unique, independent source of information on environmental and climate issues, widely read in China and in more than 200 countries around the world.
Jen Morgan Founder, Finance Innovation Lab
Jen Morgan works for WWF-UK and leads the Finance Innovation Lab. The Finance Innovation Lab is a multi-stakeholder programme, co-convened by WWF and the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales, which is seeking to enable finance system that sustains people and planet. Jeremy Leggett Founder & Chairman, Solarcentury
Dr Jeremy Leggett is founder and chairman of Solarcentury (1997-present), one of the UK's fastest growing renewable energy companies: a designer, manufacturer and installer of solar building products and an installer of solar farms. He is also founder and Chairman of SolarAid (2006 – present), an African solar-lighting social enterprise set up with some of Solarcentury's profits. He has been an Entrepreneur of the Year at the New Energy Awards, a CNN Principal Voice, a winner of the US Climate Institute's Award for Advancing Understanding, and was the first Hillary Laureate for International Leadership on Climate Change. He is convenor of the UK Industry Taskforce on Peak Oil and Energy Security, a pan-industry group warning of a systemic oil-depletion risk to economies; and Chairman of CarbonTracker, a think-tank warning of asystemic carbon-asset-bubble threat to capital markets. He has been a non-executive director of New Energies Invest AG, a private equity fund investing in renewable energy, since 2000. He is author of The Carbon War (2000), an eye-witness account of the climate negotiations in the 1990s; Half Gone (2005), an account of the interaction between peak oil and climate change; and The Solar Century (2009), a vision of solar in the clean energy revolution. He is a columnist for Sublime Magazine, and writes and blogs on occasion for the Guardian and the Financial Times. He lectures on short courses in business and society at the universities of Cambridge and St Gallen.
John Elkington Founding Partner & Executive Chairman of Volans
Founding Partner & Executive Chairman of Volans, also Co-founder of SustainAbility and of Environmental Data Services, John is a world authority on corporate responsibility and sustainable development. In 2004, BusinessWeek described him as a dean of the corporate responsibility movement for three decades.' In 2008, The Evening Standard named John among the '1000 Most Influential People' in London, describing him as a true green business guru,' and as 'an evangelist for corporate social and environmental responsibility long before it was fashionable.' In 2009, a CSR International survey of the Top 100 CSR leaders placed John fourth: after Al Gore, Barack Obama and the late Anita Roddick of the Body Shop, and alongside Muhammad Yunus of the Grameen Bank. In terms of other hats, John is a Visiting Professor at the Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility at the Cranfield School of Management and sits on an A-Z of strategic advisory boards. He has written or co-authored 18 books: John's latest book is The Zeronauts: Breaking the Sustainability Barrier, published May 2012. Previous titles include 1988's million-selling Green Consumer Guide, 1997's Cannibals with Forks: The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business (the book which brought his triple bottom line concept and agenda to a wider audience) and 2008's The Power of Unreasonable People: How Social Entrepreneurs Create Markets That Change the World. John is a columnist for various publications, and as a public speaker, he has addressed over 600 conferences all over the world. He was a Faculty member of the World Economic Forum from 2002-2008.
Justin Adams formerly with BP's Renewable Energy business
Justin has spent 19 years championing innovation and sustainability within the energy and natural resource industries; building bridges between multinationals, the investment community and entrepreneurs, both shaping and implementing solutions. Justin is now pioneering integrated approaches to land use combining opportunities for the agriculture, energy and carbon sectors. Justin was, until the end March, head of BP's Emerging Business & Ventures unit with a team of 50 around the world. In this role, he led BP Ventures, BP's corporate venture team that he established in 2006. The team has more than $150m invested in 29 companies and funds. Justin also built an integrated approach to carbon management for the core oil and gas businesses inside BP under the banner of BP Carbon Solutions. The team is responsible for developing strategic carbon technologies including CO2 Capture & Storage, CO2 conversion and novel efficiency technologies; they have also pioneered an emerging activity in forestry, terrestrial carbon and sustainable land use. Prior to joining BP in 2003, Justin led the Advanced Energy Systems practice for Arthur D. Little in Europe serving multiple large corporates and governments with techno-economic consulting. He was also the Founder and CEO of High Power Lithium, a Swiss advanced battery business working with Toyota, and Co-Founder and Business Development Director for Transdek a sustainable transport technology company in the UK.
Kelly Clark Director Tellus Mater Foundation & MD Marmanie Consulting
Kelly is the Managing Director of Marmanie Consulting, an impact investment & advisory firm that she founded in 2006 and the Director of Tellus Mater, a family foundation dedicated to supporting innovation and leadership through environmental philanthropy. Prior to launching Marmanie, Kelly spent 10 years as a private banker in the US, London and Hong Kong. She began her career at Merrill Lynch before moving to UBS where she was ultimately positioned as the Hong Kong-based Head of South East Asian private banking, and managed a team of 25 across five emerging markets.
Marshall Clemens Founder Idiagram
Marshall Clemens studied photographic science at the Rochester Institute of Technology and worked at a number Boston area technology companies before turning his attention from the engineering of opto-electronics to the 'engineering of complex socio-technical systems. In 1996 Mr. Clemens founded Idiagram, a consulting firm dedicated to the application of systems thinking and 'knowledge visualization: the visual representation of conceptual knowledge. Idiagrams focus is on the use of systems mapping as a tool to facilitate understanding, alignment, and strategy-making for complex multi-stakeholder problems – where the integration and coordination of diverse knowledge, people, and resources is required to create large-scale system change.
Pamela Hartigan Executive Director, Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship
Pamela Hartigan is Executive Director of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at Said Business School at the University of Oxford since January 2009. She is also founding partner of Volans Ventures, an organization launched in 2008 and focused on building innovative scalable solutions to challenges affecting our future. Prior to starting Volans, Dr. Hartigan spent eight years as the first Managing Director of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, a sister organization of the World Economic Forum where she was also on the Forum Managing Board. Throughout her career, she has held varied leadership positions in multilateral health organizations and educational institutions as well as in entrepreneurial non-profits. She has been responsible for conceptualizing and creating new organizations, departments or programs across a variety institutional arrangements and multi-stakeholder platforms. She is currently on the Boards or Advisory Committees of the following enterprises: Bamboo Finance (Switzerland), CAMBIA (Australia), Royal DSM (The Netherlands), Index (Denmark), the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation (USA); Mobile Metrix (Brazil), The Story Museum (UK), Ventures in Development (China), and Waste Ventures (India). A graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C., she also holds Masters' degrees in Economics and Public Health and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology.
Patrick Holden Founder, Sustainable Food Trust
Patrick Holden is one of the pioneers of the modern sustainable food movement who, during his period as Director of the Soil Association, between 1995 and 2010, played a leadership role in developing the UK organic market. Closely involved with standards development, producer cooperation, Patrick's extensive engagement with the public through successive media campaigns, played a key role in winning public trust in the products from sustainable agriculture. Before joining the Soil Association he was founder and chairman of British Organic Farmers, which developed the production base of the organic food movement before merging with the Soil Association in 1995. He trained in Biodynamic farming at Emerson College, Sussex, and in 1973 he established what is now the longest established mixed organic dairy holding in Wales. His family produces an award winning raw milk cheddar-style cheese from the milk of 75 Ayrshire dairy cows. In 2010 he stepped down from the Soil Association to address a newly emerging challenge - the need to develop strategies for sustainable food systems which have wider application, for the whole of agriculture. The mission of the resulting organisation, The Sustainable Food Trust, is to promote international cooperation between all those involved in sustainable food production. His other current positions include: Patron of the Bio-dynamic Agricultural Association, the Living Earth and the Soil Association Land Trust; Senior Environmental Advisor to JCB and International Ambassador of the Soil Association. He received a CBE for services to organic farming in 2005.
Paul Ellingstad Global Health Director, Sustainability & Social Innovation, HP
Paul leads global health partnerships and programs within HP's Sustainability & Social Innovation team. He evangelizes the organizational and individual commitment to positive social contribution, which the company's founders, Bill and Dave rooted deeply in HP's culture and values. Paul has played an integral role in HP's embrace of the 'Creating Shared Value' model in 2009 and the development and implementation of the social innovation strategy, partnerships and programs. Through coordination of the company's rich talent and expertise, and in collaboration with recognized leaders in global health as partners, Paul is working to improve the access, quality and efficiency of health care through the enabling power of technology. Paul has worked in the technology sector for 20 years. Prior to his current role, he led communications and customer programs for the head of HP's enterprise business sales in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, which included driving the organization's work to improve customer experience and loyalty. He has served in various senior roles in strategy, communications, marketing, and research. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from the University of South Dakota and lives in Ireland with his wife and three children.
Pete Baxter VP Engineering, Natural Resources & Infrastructure Sales, Autodesk.
Pete Baxter is Vice President for Engineering, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Sales in EMEA. In this role he leads Autodesk's sales operations across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Pete has a long career in the technology sector. Pete qualified as an architect and also holds a Masters degree in Urban Design and Planning from the University of Liverpool. After a period of in practice, from 1993 to 1996 he worked with a start-up company and developed a 3D building modeling software. Following a successful sale of the technology he worked for Parametric Technology Corporation in Waltham Mass, USA in various sales management roles. Pete joined Autodesk in late 2004. Throughout his career, Pete has been promoting 3D technology in many areas of design and production. The benefits of Building Information Modeling and Digital Prototyping are now being seen across the industry. Pete is very excited to be a member of the leadership team at Autodesk helping to drive invention and innovation in markets that we serve to help our customers imagine, design and create a better world.
Terri Wills Director of Global Initiatives, C40 in partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative
Terri is the Director of Global Initiatives for the C40, in partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative (C40/CCI), and is responsible for the development and delivery of C40s initiatives and networks. Before taking on this role, Terri served as the London City Director for C40/CCI, working closely with the Mayor of Londons office and agencies on climate change mitigation programs and projects. Prior to joining the organisation, Terri was a Senior Policy Advisor for the Ontario Government in Canada, supporting the administration of a large-scale cleantech demonstration fund. Terri has also worked as a consultant advising on the economic development of creative industries, and was a Head of Strategy at the British Broadcasting Corporation based in London. Terri holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and a BAH in Political Studies from Queens University, Canada.
Tim Helweg-Larson CEO, Energybank
Tim is the CEO of EnergyBank a new company that will empower households to take a stake in the nations clean energy infrastructure. In the process EnergyBank will unlock capital flows towards getting this infrastructure built. Tim studied Mechanical Engineering at Warwick University. In 2006 he co-founded a company to re-develop old quarries in Wales as pumped hydro stations which has since been acquired by the Quarry Battery Company. He led the 'Zero Carbon Britain' report published by CAT. Tim was the winner of the 2007 Sheila McKechnie Award for Environmental Campaigning. He was Director of Public Interest Research Centre for five years. Tim convened and chaired the Offshore Valuation Group (DECC, Scotland, Wales, Crown Estate, ETI, CCC, Rolls Royce, RWE, E.ON, DONG, Statoil, MRP, RES) to fund the Offshore Valuation.
