Background

Summary

Value Addition and Cottage Industry Development (VACID Africa) was the outcome of my work with government and UNIDO. I decided to create it as an International NGO linking ICT to Agricultural Value Chains when I came face to face with the challenges of integrating knowledge to rural agriculture.

Today, I claim stewardship to a number of initiatives shaping the Kenyan economy including the design of the CDF, Youth Fund, Water Trust Fund, Street Family Rehabilitation Trust Fund, as well as the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) in Kenya, among others that continue shaping the devolved government in Kenya.

I have led the innovation in the design of a community knowledge driven vehicle the Aquaculture, Value Addition, Agribusiness and Knowledge (AVAAK) Centers which bring all the technologies that I have evolved in ICT4Ag and ICT4D to the communities that embrace working with us.

We seek to collaborate with researchers in Food and Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Energy Solutions and Economic Development within the context of rural livelihoods.

The focus of my work in community-corporate development modeling started with water sustainable water sector development models, leading to my involvement with revenue collection models where I participated in the design and development of the Kenya PIN Driven tax collection modeling, which has transformed Kenya macro economic thinking before moving to SME Development then Micro-Finance, then to ICT4D through Telecentre development before changing course to take agriculture as a learned course that links with my work in ICT4D creating the ICT4Ag focus. I have no doubt my work definitely inspires my partners as we seek to see change in the world we live in.

With these experiences excitement keep coming when our models continue driving development, when we combine ICT to Rural Development using Agricultural Value Chains.

VACID Africa is a community sustainable agribusiness innovation promotion initiative that seeks to promote Value Addition and Cottage Industry Development (VACID) through collaboration with communities and local champion organizations.

We identify champion organizations as local agricultural initiatives that are lead by an individual whom VACID Africa further trains to become knowledge workers in their area through our Community Trainer of Trainer Programme.

We encourage he communities are to aggregate their produce for the market through the creation of a center that supports the productive activities of communities by supporting extension of knowledge services and green energy supported storage infrastructure. Farmer groups organized within their common interest focus are supported to aggregate their produce first at their local level then at the level that links to the market as depicted in the AVAAK Model on our website at www.vacidafrica.or.ke
