The data suggest that the metrics most used do not tell much of the full story. Per Capita GDP growth is widely used but clumsy and flawed. Neither the national performance nor the performance of an organization are proxies for the progress of people and the performance of the community.

There can be GDP growth when a few are becoming very wealthy and most remain in poverty. This is not progress ... anything but! The nations of Africa have vast natural wealth but is this being used to improve the quality of life of the population at large?

TrueValueMetrics (TVM) is an emerging data framework that provides a way to account for and report on the socio-economic development performance of every community everywhere. This is an application of 'big data' for a very big purpose.

Building a database that enables the analysis of socio-economic performance at the community level can change everything about the state, progress and performance of a community. Existing data suggests that most communities in Africa have not benefitted equitably from the wealth flows that have enriched a few Africans and foreign entrepreneurs.
