Follow Sanjay Sanjay Devkar • Namaste, It is very encouraging to exchange thoughts with minds that belong to the CSR segment. We are a group of creative minds from the entertainment medium, realizing the potential and the impact that films make on our 'masses' specially our 'youth', we are taking the responsibility to make optimum use to better the most important sector, 'building our pillars' we in the coming years shall be the worlds largest 'youth strength' and this enormous energy should be oriented. Thus as our Citizens Social Responsibility we have devised a 'CSR film segment' that shall put a spotlight on issues that need social awareness. We request you to share with us your intuitions Dhanyawaad Sanjay S. Devkar (Researcher and CSR strategist) 4 days ago• Like

Peter Burgess Peter Burgess • What is the purpose of economic activity?

Many ... not quite everyone ... think that the primary purpose of economic activity is to make profit and for investors to be satisfied. I argue that the purpose of economic activity is to satisfy needs and do it without ruining the planet.

A lot of the conversation about CSR is moving in the direction of 'CSR is good for the organization's business'. OK, but more important would be for CSR to be concerned that an organizations business is not bad for people, place and planet.

The TetraPak story suggests that the company is doing well be doing good, and that is fine. But the bigger question is whether or not modern packaging is doing good for profit while being a huge disaster for the planet because of the resources associated with producing packaging and the waste associated with the detritus of the these packaging materials and the damage done to people's health by what is being packaged, notably super sugary beverages.

In my view it is time for metrics that address not only profit performance, but also the impact of economic activity on people, place and planet

S Baranwal Follow S S Baranwal • We should also look from the environment point of view since it is very difficult to recycle tetra pack and majority of packaging goes as landfill. We need to analyse whether the CSR activities are targeted for the increasing sale of the product or betterment of the planet without indirectly earning profit from the same. If company earns a profit out of the CSR activity then it should be considerd as sales promotion activity. A guideline for evaluation of CSR must encompass this aspect. 3 hours ago• Like
