Two friends of mine at Princeton are organizing a three day hackathon next May in the Philippines to develop computer apps related to a green and sustainable economy. They are seeking grant funding from Princeton University in the amount of $10,000 and are looking to get matching funds in the same amount from other donors. Would you pledge all or part of this matching amount? In the event that these friends do not get the Princeton grant, and the hackathon is postponed or cancelled, your pledge also gets cancelled.

The $10,000 Princeton grant will enable a 2 day hackathon, which is good. With the matching funds, it will be possible to extend the hackathon into a 3 day event with way greater potential for better outcomes. It will also make it possible to expand the participation to include programmers from the remoter underserved islands of the Philippines by subsidizing their travel and lodging.

Why am I interested in helping with this? The focus of the hackathon is on programming apps for a green and sustainable economy. This is exactly the same space that Multi Dimension Impact Accounting (MDIA) occupies, and it will be possible to have some of the hackathon groups work on different modules of the MDIA system ... jump starting MDIA in a very significant way.
