SEEP believes that Microfinance associations play a powerful role in advancing the industry. The Association Development team at SEEP supports the key role these organizations play in the sector by strengthening their operational, technical and financial capacity through peer-to-peer learning and exchanges, capacity assessments, strategic planning, management training, thought leadership and product development. • Manage SEEP’s overall activities with microfinance associations (capacity building, trainings, peer learning exchanges and development of tools and resources) to promote, implement and monitor best practices in the industry. • Lead the content development for the Global Network Summit at the SEEP Annual Conference and 5 Regional Network Summits reaching over 80 microfinance associations. • Manage and support a team of 4 staff members to provide services to microfinance associations. • Oversee a 4 year, $7.6M program promoting responsible finance in Sub-Saharan African through 8 microfinance associations. • Develop proposals for new projects to support SEEP’s work with microfinance associations. The SEEP NetworkProgram Manager, Network Development Services (NDS) The SEEP Network August 2008 – December 2010 (2 years 5 months)Washington D.C. • Managed two-year, $275,000, grant program, funded by the Ford Foundation, to provide technical assistance to ten country-level microfinance networks in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. • Managed a portfolio of 5 microfinance networks in Egypt, Russia, Ecuador, México and Nicaragua as part of the Citi Network Strengthening Program, a 3-year, $11.2M program to build the capacity of 12 country-level and regional-level microfinance networks around the world. • Conducted organization assessments using the NCAT (Network Capacity Assessment Tool) of: Palestine Network for Small and Micro Finance (PNSMF), Red Centroamericana de Microfinanzas (REDCAMIF, Regional MF Network for Central America), Red Argentina de Instituciones de Microcredito (RADIM) (Argentine National MF Network), Red Financiera Rural (Ecuadorian National MF Network), China Association of Microfinance • Collaborated on the writing of several technical resources for microfinance associations, as well as the Network News, a quarterly newsletter for microfinance associations. ACCION New York is now a part of ACCION USA, which was established in 1991 as the domestic arm of ACCION International, a global microfinance organization with the mission of providing people with the financial tools needed to work their way out of poverty. • Managed a team of 6 to provide one-on-one business advising to microentrepreneurs in the New York metropolitan area, which included: recordkeeping assistance, cash-flow management, business planning, credit management and credit repair assistance and marketing strategies • Coordinated a bilingual financial counseling program, Single Stop, a $250,000 project in partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation and social service agencies that provided legal, public benefit and financial assistance; managed and trained 15 financial counselors to staff 20 sites in the five boroughs of New York city. • Underwrote credit building microloans designed to improve new borrowers’ credit worthiness. • Organized and conducted 10 workshops per month on credit management and other business topics, in conjunction with nonprofits and small business advising centers in New York City.
