Its new Environmental Innovation Strategy will see the car manufacturer work with ClimateCare to deliver a series of projects. It is part of JLR’s sustainability strategy, which as well as focusing on reducing the whole life environmental impacts of its products, manufacturing and supply chain operations, also looks at creating positive impacts in the communities where it operates. The project helps to cut carbon emissions and provides safe water to more than 700,000 people
The two have worked together since 2007 when JLR started investing in climate reduction and development schemes. This new announcement will see them work together for another three years to “develop and deliver world-leading carbon for development projects”. “We’ve always concentrated on delivering integrated projects that enhance health, well-being and the environment,” said ClimateCare director Tom Morton. “We’re delighted to be working with Jaguar Land Rover on this innovative programme that will use its carbon offset budget in a smart way, to offset emissions and at the same time deliver measurable benefits for millions of people.” The first step has already been taken with JLR supporting the LifeStraw Carbon for Water project with ClimateCare and global health business Vestergaard in Kenya. The project helps to cut carbon emissions and provides safe water to more than 700,000 people by distributing LifeStraw water filters to the Busia region of Kenya. “This is the first time that one business has supported a complete geographic region of this project, and means we can better identify the positive impact JLR’s support has on local communities,” added Morton. JLR will work with LBG (the London Benchmarking Group) to work out a consistent measurement methodology to accurately report the number of lives improved throughout the program. |
