Circular economy: learn from leaders and be a leader

Circular economy has proven to be one of the key concepts to be adopted and understood in the development of a sustainable business. With many businesses searching for opportunities of closed loop innovation, must can be learnt from current leaders and much can be discovered.

Below are four documents that can guide you through understanding and applying the concept of circular economy to your business, with examples from M&S, Unilever and Kingfisher.

Are you a circular economy innovator?

The 2015 Circular Economy Awards is an initiative by World Economy forum - Young Global Leaders. With judges including Ellen MacArthur herself, it's an event you don't want to miss.

With the support of Accenture, The Circular Economy Awards - 'The Circulars' is an initiative of the YGL Circular Economy Taskforce, The Circular Economy Awards will be an annual event, with the inaugural event in January 2015, which will recognise individuals and enterprises from commerce, civil society and academia who have made a notable contribution to driving Circular Economy principles through innovation, new business models, and leadership.

Award Categories

Awards will be made in five categories, recognising overall leadership, rewarding city-level transformation and recognising achievement by both established and early-stage businesses. It is intended that the Award for Circular Economy Leadership carries the most prestige.

The Award for Circular Economy Leadership Award to honour the individual who has demonstrated inspirational leadership in the journey towards a circular economy.

The Award for Circular Economy Entrepreneurship Award to honour an early-stage organization at the vanguard of the circular economy demonstrating innovation and market disruption

The Award for the Circular Economy Pioneer Award for an established organization demonstrating innovation in their existing business

The Award for Circular Economy Digital Disruptor Award to recognise a company who is disrupting business as usual by enabling the circular economy with data driven technologies

The Award for Circular Economy Cities / Regions Award for the city or region which best enables an environment for the circular economy to develop and flourish

Award Ceremony

The finalists and their guests will be invited to the prize giving ceremony dinner, hosted by WEF at the Annual Meeting in Davos, at which the winners in each category will be announced. Winners Speeches Each winner will be given a 5-10 minute speaking slot at the award to tell the audience about their circular economy initiative. Media Media partners will be engaged during the year and invited to the event to gain maximum exposure for the winners and the taskforce circular economy initiative.
