Earth Day ... Daniela Nick ... Technical Design Director ... A Few Habits That Make My Every Day an Earth Day

Burgess COMMENTARY

Peter Burgess

Earth Day Daniela Nick Technical Design Director Few Habits That Make My Every Day an Earth Day: 1. I never drive alone in a car, instead: I walk, bike, or use shared options. Today VIA sent me nice email how many shared rides I took, how much CO2 that saved. 2. I don't eat beef and pork, the health benefits are plenty, plus - huge amounts of water is being saved! 3. I donate all clothes and shoes that I no longer use. I take extra care for my belongings- professional cleaning, storing and often repair instead of buying new staff. 4. I became difficult/ informed buyer (the opposite of emotional buyer-although adverts amuse me often!). I buy only if, to my knowledge, the item can be used multiple times, is from sustainable materials, high quality, fair price. 5. I buy groceries with my own reusable bags and avoid packaging. Whenever possible- food in glass containers that might be returned. From farmers markets. I avoid buying cans, chemical cleaners and small packs. I do not eat/drink in plastic cups/plates/forks (unless on airplane). 6. I am paperless- thanks to my friend Michael's idea many years ago! All newspapers, magazines, books that I read are either electronic or borrowed. My correspondence runs online as well. 7. I store my Nespresso capsules and return them for reuse. I separate my garbage in categories and carefully plan my shopping, cooking and eating so that I never throw food. Not last, I constantly try to extend and spread my knowledge. Happy Earth Day!
