Investor Perspective
Northern Trust ... Jim McDonald

Burgess COMMENTARY
I watched this carefully. It was very interesting to compare my own view of the next five years (based on my experience of the last 55 years of my adult life) with those of Northern Trust / Jim MacDonald. One of the big questions is why the financial folk have 'low growth angst' and why it is that there is emerging 'populist revolt'. Working folk are faced with low demand for their labor and low prices for their labor, a trend that is now into its fifth decade. Investors have done very well over this same time period because productivity and banking have enabled the transfer of wealth from workers (say 95% of society) to investors (say 5% of society). Ignoring this existential dysfunction of the socio-enviro-economic system is indeed 'roulette'. And then there is the question of climate change and the existential risks this creates ... or a huge opportunity for all of us if we make a meaningful commitment to getting ready for the inevitable. Making the world a better place is a really big deal ... Peter Burgess http://truevaluemetrics.org
