English (Automatic Captions) 0:00Orpik by the transition team a 0:02transition official tells CNN that don't 0:04from a top choice for director of the 0:06National Economic Council councils 0:08goldman sachs president Gary Cohn you 0:10may remember that his Treasury secretary 0:12pic is also goldman sachs bed and it's 0:14working on goldman sachs stock is up 0:15thirty percent since the election some 0:17critics have wondered how that squares 0:19with doctrines drain the swamp promise 0:21he said this defense last night I want 0:25people to pay a fortune because now 0:27they're negotiating with you 0:29ok it's no different than a great 0:32baseball player or a great golfer and we 0:36want the people that are gonna bring it 0:38is so proud to do it 0:40these people have given up fortunes of 0:42income in order to make a dollar a year 0:45with me again transporter Jeffrey 0:48Lourdes and joining us former Labor 0:50Secretary and Berkeley professor of 0:51public policy Robert right shoes book 0:53saving capitalism for the many not a few 0:56is just out in paperback secure a secure 0:59the argument president-elect is making 1:01which is that that putting successful 1:03business people in his cabin is a smart 1:04thing to do especially because they 1:05proved they know how to run an 1:07organization get results to a lot of 1:09people that sounds sensible why isn't 1:11that simple in your view well it's not 1:14that simple Anderson because for the 1:16last 35 years at least half of the 1:19entire American workforce has not had a 1:21raise and their jobs are becoming less 1:24and less secure that's one reason that 1:26they wanted to top of the establishment 1:28go with the with Donald Trump and in 1:31other words the status quo in terms of 1:33American business and American Finance 1:35what big corporations and what wall 1:37street has done has in effect hurt 1:41average American workers and by filling 1:44his cabinet with billionaires with 1:45finance ears from Wall Street and also 1:48with big corporate executives he is 1:50simply replicating exactly the same 1:52economy that has shafted so many 1:55American workers to begin with that's 1:56one of the ironies of ironies Jeffrey 1:59Lourdes whatever 2:00that he's essentially you know sold him 2:03as sold himself is one thing but hiring 2:05all these people send a difference i 2:07just find the fascination with the 2:09billionaire's to be interesting nobody 2:11complains when a president stocks their 2:13cabinet with lawyers or when they stop 2:15them 2:15the washington post reported that a full 2:18two-thirds of the Obama cabinet where I 2:20really graduates and of those i think 2:23there were 13 of them that were either 2:25want to either Harvard or Yale 2:26nobody-nobody blanks about that but 2:29suddenly when it's billionaires 2:31everybody's all concerned these are job 2:34creators these are people who go and 2:36build businesses and that's exactly the 2:38kind of thing this is not working with 2:40all due respect I don't mean this is a 2:42personal slight the secretary rush but 2:43they're not academics they're not 2:45terrorists they're not lawyers their 2:47business people and i think the american 2:50people wanted to give them to give them 2:52a shot 2:52search isn't that when I just wanted to 2:55say because because there's not only 2:57some hypocrisy here there is some 2:59fundamental misunderstanding of what 3:01happened for the last 35 years 3:02Donald Trump remember campaigned against 3:05wall street again and again he accused 3:07Hillary Clinton being too close to Wall 3:09Street he actually put right there in 3:12the center of his opposition of Wall 3:14Street a firm called goldman sachs and 3:17what he is doing is not only putting a 3:20lot of goldman sachs and Wall Street 3:21people into administration but he is 3:24taking a position that is completely 3:26contrary to his notion of being the 3:29tribune the voice of the Forgotten 3:32worker in America the Forgotten worker 3:34in America is going to be even more 3:35forgotten now and then that worker was 3:38before because all of the people is 3:39putting his cabinet are people who 3:41basically forgotten American workers for 3:43let's say Jeffrey let me just to kind of 3:46show with Secretary Rice is talking 3:47about some of the things don't come said 3:49about goldman sachs on the campaign 3:50challenges watching Hillary speaks in 3:53secret to goldman sachs sharing a 3:55private position then lies to you 3:58Cruz tells you about the wall street 4:01the big bad bankers and this and that 4:03all the stuff now he didn't put down on 4:06his personal financial disclosure form 4:08that he borrowed a million dollars from 4:11citibank and goldman sachs and now he's 4:14gonna go after goldman sachs doesn't 4:16work that way 4:17goldman sachs owns him remember that 4:19folks they owned him 4:20supposing citibank or goldman sachs 4:22calls up and they say listen we'd like 4:24you to do this would like he's gonna do 4:26it 4:26I know the guys a government sex they 4:28have total total total control over him 4:31just like they have total control over 4:33Hillary Clinton entrepreneur Jeffrey me 4:36now the president goldman sachs is said 4:39to be named is driving the National 4:40Economic Council like the latest person 4:42from goldman a anderson the most 4:44important person in all of this is the 4:46president of the united states the 4:48person sitting in the Oval Office all of 4:50these people work for him not the other 4:52way around which unfortunately I think 4:54it's the way it would've been at Hillary 4:55Clinton been president so he's in charge 4:58they're going to be following his orders 5:01his described his vision of America and 5:04i have not in the least 5:05any problem with with there being there 5:08because he's the guy in charge but 5:09Jeffrey happened I i think that is I 5:12think that is frankly absurd i have 5:13served in for national administration's 5:17i was in the cabinet of Bill Clinton I 5:19know how economic policies are made a 5:21president gets advise the president 5:23depends on advice from the Treasury 5:25Department the secretary of the Treasury 5:27and also from the head of the National 5:28Economic Council and who are these two 5:30people going to be for Donald Trump are 5:32both going to be from goldman sachs but 5:34Secretary Rice two things I i think it 5:36when you say that number one essentially 5:38don't Trump is gathering people who are 5:41in many ways like himself and that's who 5:43voters voted for me there people who are 5:45very accomplished financially they've 5:47made a lot of money they were they run 5:49business is that's who Donald Trump is 5:52and that to voters voted for and 5:54secondly don't Trump won 5:56I mean I understand you know your 5:59disagreement or fundamental disagreement 6:01Susan and the selection but he did win 6:05and he has the ability and the right to 6:07surround himself with the people want he 6:09doesn't have to 6:10well Anderson of course he could be 6:11concerned itself with whoever he wants 6:13that's not the issue the issue is he ran 6:15as a working-class populace to ran as 6:19somebody who said look all of these big 6:21corporations all of the wall street 6:23goldman sachs at these have basically 6:25shafted you i am therefore going to be 6:28your voice you have been forgotten for 6:30the last 35 years i am going to remember 6:32you i'm going to give you voice and then 6:34what does he do he turns around and 6:36staffs his entire administration with 6:38the same people who have given no others 6:40were basically forgotten at the 6:42working-class Jeffrey Lourdes Secretary 6:44Rice appreciate your time thank you 6:45thanks Anderson thank you 6:47we have to edit that interview just for 6:49time you can watch the entire interview 6:50Jeffrey Lourdes response and actually go 6:52back and forth very interesting 6:53discussion online is 36
