A Recap of DSS Social from November 2017

Burgess COMMENTARY
I have followed DSS for a long time, and want to see big companies embrace sustainability in a meaningful way ... but I am also an accountant, a former CFO and a realist about materiality. The recent combination of Dow's agricultural business with DuPont's agricultural business and the creation of an independent entity was marketed as a positive increment to the market and competition ... but ... give me a break ... it was absolutely the opposite. People working in the sustainability space should have been up in arms ... but not a squeak. Peter Burgess ... http://truevaluemetrics.org

We also discussed whether they apply at all levels within the organization. Follow the discussion here: https://lnkd.in/eyTK-pF

* Safety is just the 1st step for Sustainability
One of the winners of the DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards 2017 was British Colombia Ferries, a ferry services company based in the UK. The company went through a transformational journey to reduce injuries and the severity of incidents. We shared their story through a video featuring their CEO. * Managing Risk, Not Just Safety
Our top post in November was an article written by one of our consultants covering the defects in most safety management systems. When the defects in the layers line up, hazards manifest into incidents. These holes represent the risks that need to be managed. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eKa4Haf Show less
