to me

Hello Peter,

Happy Holidays from Footprint to Wings! If you went in for a Christmas tree, here is a post about how trees can be used to shore up sand dunes against rising sea levels. And here is a sobering reminder to keep your tree watered in its stand. Dried trees are a major fire hazard.

Speaking of things we love going up in flames, it’s been a sobering year in global overheating.

This is the first time the American Meteorological Society has found that extreme events could not have happened without human-caused warming of the climate.

The NOAA Arctic Report Card tells us 2017's warm temperatures, low sea ice and more permafrost thawing is now the new normal, despite the fact that THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Bundle up. Warming of the arctic is paradoxically sending a polar vortex our way.

Welcome to the 'Anthropocene' ... ...where we’re locked in a battle between disruptive climate action and predatory delay.

Whatever we do, we need to do it quickly, and it needs to scale.

That's why Footprint to Wings (“FP2W”) exists. We are here to keep things temperate, to secure a livable, sustainable world for everyone by taking everyone, step by step, all the way - All. The. Way. - to zero carbon and beyond.

We hope you will help us continue our work by donating today.

Thanks to the support of our members and donors , FP2W took the following actions this year:

We made videos! Notably, we completed the Zero Carbon Coaching Clinic video - If you haven’t watched it, please do. This 36 minute video is packed with what you need to make sense of what we’re up against, to help you figure out - once and for all - how we’re going to deal with this epic problem. Heads up! The plan for 2018 is to set up these clinics, city by city, county by county, state by state and get everyone in shape for zero carbon!

Research and development - you’ll see a lot of it in our video, and more that will be going into the “Zero Carbon Playbook” in progress.

Speaking engagements: We spoke about launching and scoring the Race to Zero Carbon at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) , Rutgers University Business School, and the First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterdon County.

Marching and collaborating: We partnered in the March for Science, Possible Bound Brook, Reversapalooza and a Coalition for Peace Action event. Tablecloth Outreach: We Took the Tablecloth Challenge to multiple festivals and street fairs, including the NJ Flower & Garden Show, the Mercer Green Fest, the Battle of Bound Brook, Bound Brook Riverfest, Reversapalooza in NYC, the Somerville Street Fair and Maplewood Green Day. Over 300 people have taken the Tablecloth Challenge now, and I don’t have pictures of them. For those of you who took pictures, please let me know and post on social media with #TableclothChallenge. Donors, we could use a go-pro to catch the action from my side of the table (spotting the challengers, just in case). It’s great to watch the change in expression of a challenger. The apprehension before, and the exhilaration after when you realize you can do it! Now to switch off oil in the real world with as much speed and grace. Many conversations on climate change. We spoke to almost a thousand people this year about getting to zero carbon. And we listened. We got a lot of great feedback which has worked its way into the design of the zero carbon coaching clinic. We also heard a lot of excuses for inaction. A post on that coming soon. The art of coaching includes calling people out on their excuses. And more! Meetups, social media action, blog posts, the pursuit of various connections. You try a lot of things, and some of the things work. We’re ready for 2018 and focusing on getting those Zero Carbon Coaching Clinics up and running, starting with the first fully fielded clinic here in New Jersey. This will be a prototype where we work out the bugs, fill in the gaps, develop materials that can be adapted to your state. With your support, we can do it! Be a part of this historic initiative: Donate to make it happen. Start the New Year off right by taking the Player’s Pledge. Have zero carbon wisdom to impart? Step up as a zero carbon coach. As you make your end of year giving decisions, we hope you’ll consider supporting Footprint to Wings. Any gift, no matter how large or small, helps us continue this vital work.
