Mark Gough Executive Director Mark Gough is the Executive Director of the Natural Capital Coalition, and led the collaboration that delivered the Natural Capital Protocol, a standardized global framework for including natural capital in decision making. Mark previously worked for The Crown Estate, helping to develop its integrated vision and approach to value measurement. Prior to this he was the Global Environmental Manager for the information company, Reed Elsevier. Mark is a Director of the Aldersgate Group, which brings together business, politics and civil society to drive action for a sustainable economy, and has sat on a number of national and international committees, including the Steering Committee of the United Nations CEO Water Mandate and the Board of the Alliance for Water Stewardship.

Alison Jones Operations Director Alison Jones is the Operations Director at the Natural Capital Coalition. Previously, Alison had been on secondment from Arcadis, where she was a senior consultant with the Environmental Business Consulting team and has supported the delivery of projects in relation to IFC performance standards and natural capital. Prior to this Alison has over six years experience working as an environmental consultant with experience of project/programme management of a variety of large-scale environmental site assessments, investigations and remediation projects. In 2014, Alison completed a Masters in Applied Ecology and Conservation at the University of East Anglia to shift her focus from contaminated land to the natural environment. She also has a BA in Geography from the University of Cambridge and has previously worked in the UNEP-WCMC former Spatial Analysis Programme.

Marta Santamaria Policy Director Marta is the Coalition’s Policy Director. She has 15 years of experience promoting environmental economics and natural capital valuation, both in the public and the private sectors. Prior to her appointment at the Coalition, Marta worked as Scientific Project Officer for the European Commission’s Institute for Energy and Transport. In the past, she has worked for PwC, the Spanish National Research Centre of Energy, Environment and Technology, Red Electrica de España and the Universidad de Alcalá. In 2012, Marta was awarded a PhD in Global Change and Sustainable Development from Universidad de Alcalá, Madrid, Spain.

Hannah Pitts Relationships Director Hannah is the Relationships Director at the Coalition. Prior to this position, she was part of the team which lead on the development of the Natural Capital Protocol at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Most recently, Hannah lead the technical development of the Natural Capital Protocol Toolkit. She has also worked as a sustainability reporting analyst. Hannah has a BSc in Environmental Geography (University of York), an MA in Globalization, Business and Sustainable Development (University of East Anglia) and an Individual Professional Award in Environmental Valuation Techniques (University of London).

Rosie Dunscombe Technical Director Rosie is the Coalition’s Technical Director. She has 15 years’ experience as a Chartered Accountant and subsequently an environmental economist. Previously, Rosie had been instrumental in developing AECOM’s approach to natural capital assessments and accounting, including piloting and applying the Natural Capital Protocol. She also seconded to the Coalition in 2016 to support the Operations Group. Rosie’s belief that a sustainable business model requires looking beyond traditional financial metrics led her to build on her accountancy background by completing a Masters in Environmental Technology at Imperial College London in 2013. She also holds a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with ICAEW.

Joseph Harris-Confino Head of Communications Joseph Harris-Confino is the Natural Capital Coalition’s Head of Communications, and leads on the Coalition’s outreach and advocacy. Previously, Joseph has worked for Sürdürülebilirlik Akademisi in Turkey, The B Team and Futerra in New York, and Guardian Sustainable Business & Salterbaxter MSLGROUP in London. Joseph has also spent time with AMREF in Uganda studying integrated development projects in the Ugandan village of Katine, and with Fundación Gaia Amazonas in the Colombian Amazon Basin, whose main aim is to gain legal rights for the indigenous communities in the area and protect the forest from illegal logging and mining.

Doug MacNair, Ph.D Technical Director, ERM Secondee Doug MacNair, Ph.D. is a Technical Director at ERM and is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. He has 30 years of experience in the field of economics and decision sciences. Dr. MacNair specializes in non-market valuation, benefit-cost analysis, and in developing decision support tools for helping companies include environmental, financial, and social issues in strategic decision-making. The topics have included climate change, water management, air quality, outdoor recreation, open space and managed landscapes, capital expenditures, health and safety risks, and environmental liabilities. Dr. MacNair also has extensive experience in survey design and analysis and in facilitating workshops/focus groups for public stakeholders and agency and corporate staff. Dr. MacNair is an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University. His research has been published in Land Economics, Marine Resource Economics, and Forest Economics. Prior to focusing on environmental economics, Dr. MacNair worked for 10 years in the securities industry. He was Associate Director of Economic Research for NASDAQ, the over-the-counter stock market.
