Trump Allies Furious Over the Treatment of Ivanka and Jared at McCain Memorial 'Trump had endured a week of criticism for his handling of McCain’s death, but the eulogy from the late senator’s daughter, Meghan, was the last straw.'
Allies of Donald Trump are angry at how speakers at a memorial for the late Sen. John McCain made barely-veiled attacks on the president and how his daughter and her husband were treated when they attended, reports Politico.
On Saturday, Meghan McCain, daughter of the senator made multiple comments that were perceived to be critical of Trump, which infuriated some of his fans -- but the anger goes beyond his base.
As Politico reports, 'His friends and allies fumed. Trump had endured a week of criticism for his handling of McCain’s death, but the eulogy from the late senator’s daughter, Meghan, was the last straw, according to three people close to the White House.'
According to the report, one-time Trump aide Sam Nunberg was particularly incensed by how Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, were treated at the memorial where Trump's father was pointedly not invited.
In particular, Nunberg was not pleased that the couple were not seated with the VIP's.
“It was a very nice gesture by Jared and Ivanka to attend,” Sam Nunberg told Politico. “I find it contemptible that the McCain family couldn’t seat them in a better, more respectable section.”
The couple, whose appearance at the memorial was described by one insider as a “huge mistake,” were reportedly invited by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) who sought the approval of the senator's widow, Cindy McCain.
On Saturday, former McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt criticised the couple for attending, saying, 'It’s great to watch Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner hug Lindsey Graham, but the reality is that Jared and Ivanka are on the side of a movement that stands for everything that John McCain was against and opposed and fought against for his entire life.'
