There was a time when American households had wealth with unionized workers well paid, pretty happy and accumulating wealth. Since 1980 wages have flatlined for workers even while productivity and profits for owners have soared. Much of US demand has come from household disinvestment which in my view was a root cause of the financial crisis of a decade ago. Inequality needs to be fixed by rewarding people at the top a lot less and the rest of us a lot more. The fact that this has not happened in several decades suggests huge greed on the part of those with the most power to make decisions! PeterB http://truevaluemetrics.org |
