BREAKING: Trump's latest attempt to block climate action Inbox x Heather Shelby, Environmental Defense Fund takeaction@edf.org via mta-bbcspool.convio.net 1:43 PM (2 hours ago) to me Environmental Defense Fund What happens next is up to you. Take action» Moments ago, the Trump Administration announced a fresh attack on America’s efforts to combat the climate crisis: They’re working to unravel an Obama-era rule — one that ensured that coal plants being newly built had to adhere to clear carbon pollution limits, reflecting the best available approaches to reducing this dangerous pollution. This is simply the Trump Administration’s latest signal to the fossil fuel industry that their profits matter more than Americans’ health and safety. Don't stand for it: Take action today, and demand Americans remain protected from this dangerous pollution. Americans sent a clear message in the midterm elections: We’re ready for leaders who stand up for climate action. And companies are taking notice: Xcel Energy — a utility supplying power to 8 states — just announced plans to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050. Meanwhile, 13 companies representing 30% of global oil & gas production have made a major commitment to reduce methane emissions from their operations — a pledge with a significant impact, since methane pollution is powering 25% of the global warming we’re already experiencing today. It’s time for the Trump Administration to follow through on what Americans — and businesses — expect by accelerating these positive trends, rather than lurching us backwards. Take action, and demand the Trump Administration stop undermining American progress immediately. Thank you for standing with us, Heather Shelby Action Network Manager There was a time when it was possible to talk about 'American Exceptionalism' and think positively about the idea, but the GOP broadly and the Trump Administration in particular have turned that idea on its head. I am appalled at EPA's determination to eliminate standards have been in full force and effect for over three years that require new coal-fired power plants to use the best available approaches to reduce carbon pollution. This is a desirable step to help stem harmful warming Now is not the time to be moving backwards and undermining progress. North America has contributed more than any other region on the planet to global warming and our society is the most inefficient in terms of carbon emissions per capita. More than any other society, Americans have done more than anyone else to degrade natural capital in pursuit of financial capital, and this is how the country is exceptional. Please stop this assault on climate action immediately.
