Good morning, Catherine! It’s been fun to run across you so many times in the last few weeks! And I did have an opportunity to connect with Mayor Nutter on Thursday late in the day, though unfortunately it was after the group had left.
I also connected yesterday with Altoro Hall, the lead for the City of Philadelphia’s Business Attraction team who focuses on businesses in the manufacturing and industrial sector. Altoro was engaged in the initial discussions with the Philly Fish Farm team when they were looking at 10+ acre sites and considering locations in Philadelphia and throughout the region (including Camden). The initial site search results from April of this year are attached for reference.
I understand that the team is now interested particularly in Philadelphia sites (rather than the broader region) and that the size requirement may have increased from 10 to 25 acres (per your email below). I’ve included Altoro back into this chain as the business attraction lead from the City’s Commerce Department, along with my PIDC colleague Troy Mandy who maintains a close eye on the industrial real estate market in Philadelphia.
We look forward to reconnecting with Alphonso, Jerome, and the team!
Best regards,
Anne

Anne
Good morning. I wanted to make an introduction on behalf of a team of individuals with a unique development opportunity. I was with them in the meeting yesterday with Mayor Nutter. I know he attempted to reach you as well for a potential introduction. Our meeting with Mr. Nutter was a simple meet and greet to capture his perspective on the local landscape and submarkets.
The team is looking for a site of a minimum of 25 acres for a hydroponic farm for salmon and other fish. There are some strong possibilities and benefits that would be derived for the city if the right location is found including general revenue, job creation, and so forth.
I am going to let Jerome take it from here

Hey Altoro,
There are 4 options in Camden County that could be a match for this project. Before I pass this info along, I’d like to include anything in Philadelphia County. Let me know.
Thanks!
Meghan

Thanks again, Meghan ...
I was just re-reading your email here and I wanted to make a point or two. Our development partner is Lehr Jackson of Lehr Jackson Assoc. Formerly with Jackson Ewing and The Rouse Organization, Lehr was a principal in the redevelopment of much of the redevelopment work in and around The University including 30th Street Station.
To make the point, we envision an expansive development that would prove visionary and truly a national demonstration project. The extended project will be a healthy mix of 'place creating,' elements, in fact, a venue with entertainment and ecology as primary thematic elements in addition to, 'workforce housing,' We envision a socially and economically integrated community that is sustainable economically.
Accordingly, it is our intention to 'buy,' (a long term lease of 20 yrs is also a possibility) It is our intention to own and manage the site and not to resell. We expect to become a part of that community as it will be both emblematic and the anchor of our development vision.

Hi Jerry and Alphonso:
It was a pleasure to meet you last week. Thank you for taking the time to travel up to Philadelphia to share with us your vision for an aquaculture farm.
One initial question which would be important to ask as we search for potential land parcels: are you interested in buying or leasing?
And for that matter, any other specifications you might have about a property would help us narrow down the options.
Altoro is checking into the land in Northeast Philadelphia that he referenced. I reached out to Camden’s economic development agency and they are looking into it. I wanted to also just do a sweep of other potential options in our region.
Thanks, and look forward to bringing you more information soon!
Best,
Meghan
