Marathoners Passing Over Bklyn Food Co-Op During Race!! Inbox x ISSP-NYC Chapter Co-Chairs, Mark D Wolf & Kristia Janowski nycchapter@sustainabilityprofessionals.org via gmail.mcsv.net 9:44 AM (40 minutes ago) to me You are cordially invited to our next ISSP-NYC Sustainability In Focus film screening and networking reception. We are delighted to present FOOD CO-OP, the first feature-length documentary by American born, Paris-based director Tom Boothe. The Park Slope Food Co-Op was founded in 1973 by a group of committed neighbors to provide affordable and healthy food. This film highlights how the Park Slope Food Co-Op in Brooklyn is the most successful supermarket and makes more money per square foot than any other grocery store in New York City. The secret to its’ more than 40 years of success is grounded in its cooperative approach, whereby all 17,000 members, regardless of age, gender, culture and socio-economic background, have to contribute three hours of work per month. The film illustrates how this economic and collaborative model allows for lower labor costs which translate into the co-op charging lower prices. With greater buying power bringing in more members who are happier and eating healthier while uniting communities, the Park Slope Food Co-Op has become an inspirational model for Europeans for positive and sustainable change. As the daily newspaper El Pais Spain has noted, Boothe’s film is “the film that makes supermarkets.” An expert panel discussion with Q&A follows the screening.
