Basic Needs

“Need is probably the most fundamental political claim. Even toddlers know that need carries more weight than desire...”

Burgess COMMENTARY
My academic background is (1) engineering, (2) economics, and (3) accountancy. The corporate world is managed using financial accountancy that is very strong for profit performance, but completely ignores social and environmental impact. I see change happening very fast as soon as we enhance accountancy so that it is a strong for the numbering of social and environmental impact as it is for the measurement of profit and the determination of stock values. I am working to change the way the game is played by developing TrueValueMetrics.org to change the way the game is scored!

You know, the books that changed me. “Need is probably the most fundamental political claim. Even toddlers know that need carries more weight than desire...” I have always had a passion for economics, which led to my passion for #strategy and #strategicmanagement but I hadn’t really given much thought about how economics directly effect poverty, even though I understood its inherent political implications. I always viewed it from a technology geekiness and not from its incredible ability to prevent pain. Hunger hurts. Poverty is painful. Those are simply true. But economics can prevent both. We fully have the resources to feed the world right now. We have the resources to prevent catastrophe. But the systems to compel, those are lacking. The will it can be argued should be first but I find few folks that “don’t” want to help. They simply don’t know how! I challenge Flo Awolaja “We gain superiority only by producing weapons we ourselves are terrified to use.” #bluecollarphilosopher 26 8 Comments Like Comment Share Most Relevant Peter Burgess Peter Burgess Founder/CEO at TrueValueMetrics.org developing True Value Impact Accounting 3s My academic background is (1) engineering, (2) economics, and (3) accountancy.
