This should be a no-brainer for political leadership but, of course, it is not. Alexandria ... I am about 50 years older than you, but you have more wisdom than most of my contemporaries. I want to help as much as I can, and within my abilities. Specifically I want to change the way we quantify economic and financial performance and replace it with what I call TrueValueMetrics.org (TVM) ... where social profit and environmental profit are as important as economic or financial profit. People want a profitable life where that includes social profit (the children) environmental profit (responsible consumption) and economic profit (enough income to pay the bills with some surplus to put aside for a rainy day). I want to see US statistics not only for the country as a whole, but for the top 10% and the bottom 90%. The top 10% is richer and earning more each year than any part of the world ever. The bottom 90% has been slipping backwards for the past 40+ years and by most measures is perhaps the lowest performing of the OECD countries. I believe metrics matter ... and my dream is to encourage a revolution in how we do the metrics so that the stark realities of a failing America (and indeed a modern world) can be addressed. One of the things I have been thinking about is quantification of the GND using TVM thinking, but this has been overtaken by the immediacy of the COVID-19 economic catastrophe. | |||||||||
