Certainly, in the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1919 the second wave was more deadly than the initial wave. In the current situation some of the initially hard hit states are reducing their infection rates, but other parts of the country are only starting the journey. Maybe the summer will help for a while ... but nobody knows what is going to happen in the fall when the regular flu and the Covid-19 virus both come back to life. Meanwhile ... around 35 million workers have now filed for unemployment insurance ... and likely a lot more people are no longer employed as they were just a couple of months back. It is anyone's guess how many small businesses have closed and will never reopen.  There has been relatively little reporting about the massive injection of liquidity into the banking system recently by the Fed. I think it was March 23rd. This was a bigger move by the Fed than was mobilized in the 2008 great recession. There has been more reporting about what Congress and the Executive Branch of the Federal Government have done. The amount of money that has been appropriated is massive ... but where it will all go is questionable. Not enough will get to where it is needed at the bottom of the pyramid and in support of State, County and Municipal Governments and the hospital / healthcare sector, all of which are in precarious financial condition. McConnell type leadership is the last thing that we need at this time ... but it is my guess that he will wield his power now as he did a decade ago.
