As the worldwide coronavirus death toll passes 300,000, impoverished countries around the world are all but certain to face devastating recessions, spikes in poverty rates, and major increases in hunger and unemployment — on top of the crushing debt they owe.
Like Ilhan has said many times before, our destinies and the destinies of millions struggling to survive around the world are linked, and now is the time to show a level of solidarity the world has never seen before.
Ilhan and Senator Bernie Sanders, along with more than 300 leaders worldwide, have called on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to cancel debt for the world’s poorest countries to stabilize the global economy.
