Burgess COMMENTARY I was born in 1940. My generation has been spoilt rotten ... especially Americans of my generation and their offspring. They consume an inordinate amount of the goodies that our modern economy can produce, and take no responsibility for the environmental damage that results. But worse than this, there are a quite small number of successful tech entrepreneurs who have figured out (with the assistance of the big name business schools) how to build wealth for themselves by diminishing wealth for most everyone else. This is insane ... but has been tolerated by political leadership for the past 40 years. We have the technology to have a very prosperous world, but this will never happen as long as everything is being done for the elite and almost nothing done for everyone else. My dream of better metrics is getting close to a reality ... better metrics is the first step- towards better decision and holding everyone in positions of power accountable. I hope I can be helpful to you ... the world needs serious leadership.. Peter Burgess ... Bushkill PA ... TrueValueMetrics.org Peter Burgess | |||||||||
Response from Senator Casey Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr. 7:26 PM (42 minutes ago) to me Dear Ms Burgess: Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). I appreciate hearing from you about this issue. The annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) authorizes policy and annual expenditures for the Department of Defense (DOD) and national security programs of the Department of Energy (DOE). This bill represents a crucial investment in national security which, along with the international affairs budget, gives our soldiers, diplomats and civil servants the necessary tools to keep America safe. The NDAA also includes vital investments in defense technology, healthcare research, benefits for wounded service members and environmental remediation. I agree that we must ensure accountability and provide careful oversight of taxpayer dollars spent on defense, and I share concerns that not enough funding is going to investments in health care, education, and infrastructure. I also believe that we must give our servicemembers, intelligence community and civil servants the tools to fulfill the daunting task of keeping America safe. I disagree with the notion that, in order to allocate funding for U.S. national security, we must make cuts to domestic spending. We can and must simultaneously make significant investments in our military, infrastructure, healthcare system, environmental policy and diplomatic outreach to improve the quality of life and access to opportunity for all Americans and reassure America's role in the world. The Senate version of the NDAA and related amendments are currently under debate before the Senate. Please be assured that I will continue to push for greater transparency, financial accountability and careful allocation of resources in the FY 2021 NDAA. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other matter of importance to you.
