Deranged Nazi verbally assaults Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Community (This content is not subject to review by Daily Kos staff prior to publication.) WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 12: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) yells at journalists after setting off the metal detector outside the doors to the House of Representatives Chamber on January 12, 2021 in Washington, DC. Today the House of Representatives plans to vote on Rep. Jamie Raskin's (D-MD) resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, removing President Trump from office. On Wednesday, House Democrats plan on voting on articles of impeachment. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images) This thing that calls itself a congresswoman needs to be expelled. From The Washington Post: Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene aggressively confronted Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Wednesday and falsely accused her of supporting “terrorists,” leading the New York congresswoman’s office to call on leadership to ensure that Congress remains “a safe, civil place for all Members and staff.” Two Washington Post reporters witnessed Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) exit the House chamber late Wednesday afternoon ahead of Greene (Ga.), who shouted “Hey Alexandria” twice in an effort to get her attention. When Ocasio-Cortez did not stop walking, Greene picked up her pace and began shouting at her and asking why she supports antifa, a loosely knit group of far-left activists, and Black Lives Matter, falsely labeling them “terrorist” groups. Greene also shouted that Ocasio-Cortez was failing to defend her “radical socialist” beliefs by declining to publicly debate the freshman from Georgia. This is harassment and assault, pure and simple. It's conduct that in virtually any other work or business environment would result in termination. No one should have to put up with this nonsense, particularly from an elected member of the United States Congress. “You don’t care about the American people,” Greene shouted. “Why do you support terrorists and antifa?” Worse, this is part of a pattern. Earlier this year Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) accused Greene and her staff for accosting her in a tunnel beneath a House office building after she asked Greene to wear a mask “out of concern for the health of my staff, other members of Congress, and their congressional staff.” Greene denied the allegation and accused Bush of “lying” and of leading a “terrorist mob” because Bush supported Black Lives Matter. Greene knew exactly what she was doing; she pulled the same routine on Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg in 2019, verbally harassing him for organizing against gun violence, and then bragged about it on social media. The intent here by Greene is exactly the same: Make a name for herself among her wretched constituents, and fundraise. If House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy can’t control his caucus members, he should be expelled as well. Take the vote, Democrats. Of course, you won’t garner any Republican support, but the point will be made. As for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, she should do everything in her power to take away this person’s physical office, even if it means demoting her to a janitor’s closet. |
