Boris Johnson's worst day as PM?
by Basit Mahmood, Left Foot Forward editor@leftfootforward.org via gmail.mcsv.net Wednesday 8th December Where do we start. Boris Johnson had arguably his worst ever performance at PMQs today, with one snap poll showing that a majority of the public believe he should quit as prime minister after the leaking of a video which showed Number 10 staff joking about a Christmas Party last year in breach of Covid rules. Downing Street continues to insist that no such party took place, though it refuses to say whether Simon Case, cabinet secretary tasked by the PM with investigating claims of the Christmas Party, was actually at the party. Health Secretary Sajid Javid was supposed to be promoting the government’s health messaging on booster jabs this morning, yet he was pulled out with the Tories operating a blanket media and events blackout. The Sun meanwhile refused to even mention the story on its front page, for which it received much ridicule, but that didn’t spare Johnson, from a humiliating PMQs in which he was accused of taking the public for fools. It really is one rule for them and another for the rest of us. Even Tory MPs have been anonymously briefing that the PM’s friends think the rules don’t apply to them. In other news, Labour MPs have denounced the Nationality and Borders Bill as anti-refugee and propose reforms to welcome refugees to the UK. The bill also poses a grave danger to citizenship rights and is yet another scandal that needs highlighting and exposing for what it is.
