PRICES
I-PHONE PRICES The price of I-Phones around the world in local hours of work Open PDF: Grover-on-prices-of-I-phones-21637.pdf Burgess COMMENTARY Apple is one of the richest companies in all of history. Its mobile phone is a most amazing piece of technology with immense digital processing power. The Apple company has also done an amazing job of optimizing its operations for profit maximization. The profit performance of the company is quite spectacular. The I-phone product os also quite amazing. I learned about the engineering of telephony in the very early days of my engineering training, and I observed some of the early engineering that started to enable the move from analog to digital technology for communications. A company where I was budget manager was involved with the engineering design and production of the digital communications for the Appollo space program in the 1960s going into the 1970s. The digital technology of 1970 was puny compared to what is now possible (2022) with current digital technology. The idea that the power is doubling every 18 months is perhaps one of the greatest understatements of all time!!!!! A lot of attention is paid to the value of an I-phone ... and its value is certainly substantial ... and Apple is not shy about pricing its products to monetize this value for their own profit performance. A lot of attention is paid within the company to the cost ... every little bit of cost throughout the supply chain. This is not well understood at all by outsiders, but it is incredible important in order to understand the state of the Apple product and its eco-system. Nobody can give a simple answer to the question 'Wher is the Apple I-phone made?' Nor do we know much about the bad impacts that are associated with the Apple I-phone. I have a lot of concerns about the way in which younger people rely on constant connectivity. Older folk had to remember stuff in a way that young people do not ... but when there is no Internet and no telphone signal ... the younger folk are in trouble. Human beings and society are losing resilience in ways that are ... to me anyway ... quite irresponsible. What is going to happen if an adversary turns off our communications ecosystem? Is this possible? Yes! Is this likely? A lot more likely than I would wish!!!!!!!!!!! Peter Burgess | |||||||||
The iPhone Price Index
Data study compares the number of hours someone earning the minimum wage must work to afford the latest iPhone in different countries around the world.
How the study was conducted: The index was conducted as part of a larger study that examined the costs of poplar electronics in addition to their availability around the world. The iPhone Price Index began by collecting data on the inflation-adjusted minimum wage as of 2021 in 50 countries around the world, as well as the average cost of the latest iPhones in local brick-and-mortar consumer outlets. In order to achieve comparable price data, currency areas, prices and salary levels were expressed in local currencies and converted into EUR. The researchers then used this data to calculate how many minimum wage working hours it would take in each country in order to afford an iPhone from a brick-and-mortar store. Findings: The table below reveals the 15 countries with the least affordable iPhone 12s based on each country’s minimum wage.
