I believe she put up a fight against Robert Moses' proposed highway construction in Manhattan. Moses has been blamed for having destroyed more than a score of neighborhoods by building 13 expressways across New York City and by building large urban renewal projects with little regard for the urban fabric or for human scale. In spite of Jane Jacobs, urban expressways were built through American cities everywhere in the country over many decades doing major social damage especially to people living in poorer urban neighborhoods.
