I have lost a lot of respect for reporters and the media as I age ... though maybe not mature. FOX News and Rupert Murdoch got their opportunity long ago in the Nixon era. Nixon wanted to have a more friendly press, and to that end enable Roger Ailes to engage in Nixon friendly propaganda. Over time, this became the FOX News network that serves as the antidote to real reporting and news ... affectively the home now of 'fake news' popularized so dangerously by Donald Trump.
Sadly the best media in the United States has degraded significantly over the decades and has become inadequate to the task of informing the public in a reliable comprehensive manner. This is a massive systemic problam and must be addressed, but sadly this is unlikely to get done. The advertising that used to be the funding base for media investigation has migrated to 'social media' that does rather little of value for society nor does it accept the normal responsibilities that are called for from the media in the US democracy.
