Burgess COMMENTARY
I never got to learn much about Finland during my formal education, but found myself working with some high profile Finns with the UN in Namibia in connection with Namibia's independence in 1991. Namibia was one place where Finland was active during the European colonial era!!!!!!! The story ... history ... of the Winter War is very intersting in the situation that now exists with Ukraine and Russia.
The history of the world is much more nasty than nice ... but I wonder whether that is because of the way history is recorded and repeated. If I read newspapers or listen to electonic media I will learn a lot about the nastiness of the world, but rather little about the good behavior of the folk who aren't nasty. Maybe the world is a nicer place than those who make big decisions understand. Maybe the system is rigged in a way that makes bad folk rise the top more often than good folk. There has to be a better way of running the world than the one that seems to be dominating for the last several decades !!!!!!
It would be interesting to see a history of the people of the world and their day to day lives and living standards rather than one that has a focus on the people at the top and the big accomplishments that are plaing for all to see!!!!!!
