I have been impressed by the way the January 6th Committee has been presenting its case, but I am also aware that a large number of Americans have tuned it out.
Americans are concernted with so called 'kitchen table' issues that are a challenge for most people in the USA, Inflation is having a big impact on the cost of living, and while there seem to be a lot of job opportunities, most of the available jobs do not pay well. These issues are at the tope of most people's agendas.
Meanwhile, neither the mainstream media nor social media are addessing any of the core issues that need to be addressed, rather doing little more than 'entertaining' to the maximum in order to profit to the maximum.
I get annoyed when the arguments presented in the media ... mainstream and social ... which fail to reflect reality. I am especially annoyed by the inconsistency between the way in which Republicans want 'less' government while also ranting and raving about the fact that President Biden has done little to reduce inflation. This is nothing more than a GOP 'talking point' that is totally inconsistent with the what Republicans say they stand for. Democrats, meanwhile, don't seem to have much to say, though in many ways the legislative accomlishments of the Democrats in the last 18months have been very impressive ... but their messaging is awful.
I am especially angry that the companies that are earning record profits are not being talked about in the media ... it is business concentration and market domination thst is enableing profits that are driving the current wave of inflation. Back in the 1970s when there was very high inflation, the driver of inflation was very different and mainly caused by the the power of the OPEC cartel to set prices much higher than was possible under free market competition.
The hearings being run by the January 6th Committee ought to be a game changer ... but unlikely unless the Democrats step up their skills in mass communication. I should also add that far too many media personalities don't seem to have done their homework about how economics works and contribute too much to the confusion about what is important and real and what is not !!!!
