ABOUT KALININGRAD OBLAST Kaliningrad ... Why Does Russia Own This Old Piece of Germany? Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2f9Zf-MDtU Peter Burgess COMMENTARY I am appalled at my own lack of knowledge of world history especially relatively recent world history which is needed better to understand current world affairs. What is worse, it that my knowledge and interest in these matters if very well development compared to most of the general public. And even more worse ... many (most) of those doing the writing and reporting in the media have little of the knowledge they really need to put their (often very important) stories in perspective. I was a young child in London during the Second World War. As I was growing up I learned how difficult it was to get President Roosevelt to give full-throated support to Britain when Britain was the only country still standing against the Nazi onslaught. Roozevelt had to get the 'buy-in' of the American people and that was difficult then ... just as it is goint to be difficult now. In fact, we will never know what Roosevelt would have been able to do if the Japanese had not attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor in December 1941. This set in motion the complete mobilization of the mobilization of the American industrial infrastructure against the axis powers. Today, I worry that most Americans have little interest in world affairs no matter how important they are in determining the way the world progresses ... with few of our political leaders fully understanding the stakes involved. The media does not help very much either !!!!!! Peter Burgess | |||||||||
