STOCKMARKETS
BEAR MARKET BLUES Reuters: Towards end May, the S&P 500 index fell almost 20% this year before rallying in recent days. Edward Chancellor observes how the Federal Reserve has made such downturns in U.S. stocks shorter and less frequent Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTQ8S744f9g Peter Burgess COMMENTARY I have tried to engage in the world of stock market analysis several times during my career, but did not make any useful inroads. Mostly, I became quite frustrated by the amount of sloppy analysis much of which seemed to have the characteristic of needing an academic justification for the result that was wanted. I enjoyed listening in Edward Chancellor, but I felt his analysis has something of this characteristic ... not to mention rather a lot of correlation but not much in support of causation. At this point in history, I am wanting to get a lot more clarity about what is is that is the 'causation' of the socio-economic situation that has emerged at this time. Peter Burgess | |||||||||
