I migrated to the North America in the mid-sixties. A few years before when I was a student I spent two summer vacations in North America, and especially in Canada where I was allowed to work.
During these visits I compared my education in the UK with my young peers in Canada and the USA. The result was interesting. Compared to Canadians I was about a year ahead.
When compared with Americans, the Canadians were about a year ahead. In other words my education in the UK was 2 years ahead of American students.
There is a reason why the United States has '4-year college'. In the UK when I went through the college experience, it was a 3-year program ... but we came into college perhaps 2 years ahead of the average American.
But it gets worse. That was more than 60 years ago. Most of the world has made considerable progress in making education better, but that does not seem to be the case in the United States. So much of the education in the United States has been degraded by a variety of 'agendas' that have nothing to do with a good education.
Having been very critical of education in general in the United States, there are some educational establishments in the United States that are among the best in the world. These institutions attract students and faculty from everywhere on the planet, but the majority of students in the United States are getting a rather poor version of education, especially higher education.
In the 1960s when I first came to North America, industrial productivity was the best in the world and the general population earning more than anyone else in the world. The pump prices of gasolene (petrol) was under 20 cents a gallon (US). Wages were high, and the prices (except for gas) were also high. Everything was more or less in balance.
Of course, there was the massive issue of race relations ... and everything talked about above only really applied to white folk. More on this elsewhere!
The economic good times (for white workers) came to a grinding halt in 1973 with OPEC and the Arab oil boycott. More on this elsewhere!
And now we have around 50% of Americans supporting Donald Trump and the MAGA movement! I can relate to this British tourist!

- York City from England walked by the courthouse yesterday where the MAGA people were supporting
- Trump and sobbing and anointing themselves with various substances and burning incense. She was
- stunned. She saw she thought it was exaggerated. She's like, these people don't really exist in
- the United States. They might be actors. It must be fake. So this British woman walks
- around outside the courthouse and realizes this is real, and she's disgusted. And when,
- incredibly, when the crowd figured out that she wasn't friendly, they started, screaming at her,
- swears profanity to the point where police said you should probably leave for your own safety.

- people. What do you think about the response that happened? You were having a conversation where
- we were actually here purely for entertainment value. We're going to keep.

- because of the presence of this one woman. Speaker 4: Oh. Daddy. Brownie, how you look? Well.

- on the TV and we have no joy watching him. Unidentified: I go on.

- this is what I'm trying to explain. When I tell people I get emails from foreigners and they go,
- David, we don't even understand what's happening in your country. We we just we don't understand.
- When I talk to friends and family in other countries and they say, are there really
- MAGA people like, are there really people who support this guy? Oh yeah, they're out there.
- There are no pointing themselves with oil. They're burning incense. They're sobbing and praying for
- Trump's freedom. They're screaming horrible profanity at a British woman who's just like,
- what's this all about? Let's see what this is. They can't believe that this is a political
- movement with any following whatsoever. And so when I explain, you know, under Trump,
- we were globally humiliated. Global opinion was in the toilet under Trump because people look around,
- around the world, with few exceptions, I think Russia, Turkey, Turkey and one other place kind
- of like Trump. Every other country, Trump's a disaster. This is what I'm talking about.

- That's the look of a stunned British woman who is like, what the hell is going on here? And it is a
- sickness. It is a cult. It is all of these things. Let's do our own praying. Actually, you know,
- better than praying would be just voting. Let's do our own voting in November to end this movement
