- so the the realities are have changed
- the Dynamics of this race in the last 18
- hours where if you go on social media
- Trump you know rage tweeting at two in
- the morning tells you he's he's this
- hurts he he doesn't know what to do with
- 0:18
- this and we can get into whether not
- 0:21
- there'll be a debate I don't think there
- 0:23
- will be how this is going to play out in
- 0:25
- terms of who she ultimately picks to go
- 0:28
- up against JD van uh I think that will
- 0:31
- be an important decision but just what
- 0:34
- Joe bidon did in placing his impr promat
- 0:37
- on her candidacy for the presidency
- 0:40
- changed the trajectory of this
- 0:44
- [Music]
- 0:52
- race hello and welcome to the politics
- 0:54
- girl podcast I'm your host Lee mwan
- 0:56
- let's get into it so the podcast I had
- 0:59
- scheduled for today obviously had to be
- 1:01
- moved since the breaking news on the
- 1:02
- weekend of President Biden dropping out
- 1:04
- of the presidential race to talk to us
- 1:07
- today about what it means as both an
- 1:08
- outsider and an Insider I am joined by
- 1:11
- former RNC chair and co-host of the new
- 1:14
- MSNBC show the weekend Michael steel
- 1:17
- Michael is the former lieutenant
- 1:18
- governor of Maryland who was the
- 1:19
- incredible successful leader of the
- 1:21
- Republican National Committee in the
- 1:23
- days before Trump gave it to his family
- 1:25
- breaking fundraising records and winning
- 1:27
- the biggest pick of House Seats for the
- 1:29
- party in modern hist history his
- 1:30
- leadership produced 12 Republican
- 1:32
- governorships and the greatest share of
- 1:34
- State Legislative seats since 1928 so
- 1:37
- this man understands what it takes to
- 1:39
- pick a candidate run a successful
- 1:41
- convention and turn a game around so
- 1:44
- without further Ado please welcome my
- 1:46
- guest former chair of the RNC host of
- 1:48
- the Michael steel podcast and co-host of
- 1:50
- msnbc's the weekend Michael steel thank
- 1:53
- you for coming Michael I just love
- 1:55
- hanging with you I so excited to be back
- 1:59
- in neighborhood thank you so much uh lee
- 2:02
- for having me appreciate it oh well
- 2:04
- thanks for coming I mean I honestly I'm
- 2:06
- sitting here I'm looking at you and I
- 2:08
- can't believe I'm going to do this but
- 2:09
- I'm gonna quote Vladimir Lennon right
- 2:11
- now uh who's you know Steve bannon's
- 2:13
- favorite guy but I can't stop thinking
- 2:15
- of the quote that's attributed to him
- 2:17
- which is there are decades where nothing
- 2:19
- happens and then there are weeks where
- 2:21
- decades happen and I kind of feel like
- 2:23
- that's where we are right now ah that is
- 2:26
- that is such actually it's a very apropo
- 2:29
- quote qu um which runs along uh and
- 2:33
- aligns with the old Chinese proverb may
- 2:36
- you live in interesting times um and
- 2:39
- what people don't understand about that
- 2:42
- quote is about that proverb it is a
- 2:44
- curse it's not a blessing it is not
- 2:46
- something that people like oh you know
- 2:48
- may you live in interesting times where
- 2:50
- things are no this is like interesting
- 2:52
- times are not
- 2:54
- good um and and we we see this alignment
- 2:58
- where you know decades are getting
- 3:01
- played out literally in weeks and and
- 3:04
- even in some cases 24-hour news Cycles
- 3:08
- um and these times have been interesting
- 3:11
- since about January of
- 3:13
- 2017 um when the former president of the
- 3:16
- United States Donald Trump took to the
- 3:19
- uh the national and Global stage and
- 3:22
- painted a dystopian view of America and
- 3:25
- the world in his inaugural inaugural
- 3:28
- speech for people no this is the
- 3:30
- American Carnage speech the American
- 3:32
- Carnage American Carnage The American
- 3:34
- Carnage speech um and we have been
- 3:38
- navigating through that ever since and
- 3:41
- what is still stunning to me is that
- 3:44
- people in the political class as well as
- 3:47
- the as the media class have not figured
- 3:49
- out what this is there are so many signs
- 3:53
- where they still try to treat this
- 3:56
- period and this particular candidate now
- 3:59
- running for for election again to the
- 4:01
- presidency um as normal and as any other
- 4:06
- candidate and so both you know that
- 4:09
- proverb and that lenen quote
- 4:12
- encapsulates uh this moment where the
- 4:16
- country is really at a Crossroads um
- 4:20
- that sit on a precipice and and it's
- 4:22
- it's really going to be a challenge to
- 4:25
- have the right framing of of America to
- 4:29
- figure out
- 4:30
- what the next step is because that next
- 4:32
- step can either take you further down a
- 4:34
- road or off a cliff yeah I often say you
- 4:39
- know that scene in the movie where like
- 4:41
- the car is teetering on the cliff where
- 4:43
- everyone in the car is trying to lean
- 4:44
- backwards and make sure that it doesn't
- 4:46
- go over I'm like literally that's where
- 4:48
- the country is and we all have to lean
- 4:50
- the same direction to not only get the
- 4:52
- car back on Solid Ground and then set a
- 4:56
- a stronger straighter direction for
- 4:58
- where we want to go but we are right at
- 5:00
- that precipice right now and people need
- 5:02
- to understand that I often say like
- 5:03
- please can we just live in a precedented
- 5:06
- time for once just like be calm for
- 5:09
- crying out like just give me some
- 5:10
- precedent like that's all I want right
- 5:12
- now you know can we just live in an age
- 5:15
- where it's just
- 5:16
- boring it's boring I want to wake up in
- 5:19
- the morning and be like what's the
- 5:20
- weather not like God what happened you
- 5:23
- know like it's just exhausting um so
- 5:25
- listen for those of you who might have
- 5:27
- been on vacation or you know missed it
- 5:29
- somehow we found out on Sunday um from
- 5:33
- what felt from the outside like a
- 5:35
- full-on shanking of the pundry and donor
- 5:38
- class with kind of an assist from the
- 5:40
- media that our current successful
- 5:42
- sitting president will be stepping away
- 5:44
- from running um uh for president uh in
- 5:48
- 2024 and we will have a new Democratic
- 5:50
- Presidential nominee now I'm not going
- 5:51
- to bother to go into any more detail or
- 5:54
- give my opinions or thoughts about this
- 5:56
- move because honestly at this point it
- 5:57
- doesn't really matter what's done is
- 5:58
- done the the president has made his
- 6:00
- decision and he did it in the right
- 6:02
- amount of time before the convention and
- 6:04
- now we have to Pivot and win against the
- 6:07
- existential threat that is the Trump
- 6:09
- Vance project 2025 uh ticket um so do
- 6:12
- you have any thoughts on that uh on the
- 6:15
- how it all happened before we sort of
- 6:17
- leave that part of the conversation
- 6:19
- you're like no Lee I have no thoughts at
- 6:21
- all no I I'm nothing to say on that no I
- 6:25
- no Z zero to say I've had a lot to say
- 6:28
- on that um and
- 6:30
- was very clear in what I thought was an
- 6:35
- abuse of against the the the President
- 6:39
- Joe Biden by his own party um there were
- 6:44
- there were ways in which this could have
- 6:46
- been done um cleaner uh more quiet um
- 6:52
- and uh with a sense of difference um it
- 6:57
- is one thing I mean folks you just need
- 6:59
- to understand and and I've been in this
- 7:00
- space so I know I know a lot of how Joe
- 7:04
- Biden looked at this and how he felt
- 7:06
- about it um when people that you have
- 7:10
- helped get out of jams similar jams
- 7:13
- Nancy Pelosi um and um have been aligned
- 7:18
- with
- 7:19
- suddenly um saying these nice things
- 7:23
- about you as they're taking the uh the
- 7:26
- knife and pushing it deeper into you
- 7:29
- Year back so I had a problem with that
- 7:31
- because and largely because I you know
- 7:33
- I'm a chairman you know I I run parties
- 7:36
- from at every level of our political
- 7:40
- structure and the one thing you're
- 7:42
- always concerned about is your base um
- 7:45
- and what actions do to move your base
- 7:49
- into the game or move your base away
- 7:52
- from the game and with the fixation on
- 7:55
- donors which you know the major donors
- 7:58
- they were a big driver in this the base
- 8:01
- was not uh the political Elites were a
- 8:04
- big drivers in this the base was not and
- 8:07
- the political electeds were a big driver
- 8:10
- in this the base was not so you you have
- 8:12
- to be concerned about how this is
- 8:14
- resonating with them after that debate
- 8:17
- by Saturday the the Democratic base
- 8:20
- Consolidated around Joe Biden how do we
- 8:23
- know that because he did not lose any
- 8:25
- ground significant ground in the polling
- 8:28
- um Joe Biden um was uh four points down
- 8:33
- uh before the debate by that Tuesday he
- 8:36
- was six points down after the debate uh
- 8:40
- as of the day he left he was within a
- 8:44
- point or two on the national average um
- 8:47
- so there was clearly not this wholesale
- 8:50
- oh my God hair on fire run away from Joe
- 8:53
- Biden uh in polling that showed 75% of
- 8:56
- those polled said Joe Biden should not
- 8:59
- be the the nominee of the democratic
- 9:00
- party when asked who they would vote for
- 9:03
- for between Biden and Trump because
- 9:05
- that's the ticket um 45 45 so again he
- 9:11
- had he was competitive competitive so my
- 9:14
- concern was where they would go where
- 9:16
- where they
- 9:17
- landed was a better place because of how
- 9:21
- Joe Biden decided to exit and right he
- 9:24
- did so in a way in which he did two
- 9:27
- things acknowledge what every one had
- 9:29
- been saying okay I realize that that I
- 9:32
- you know there there's no pathway for me
- 9:35
- to to win this but then to embrace his
- 9:38
- vice president as the The Heir parent if
- 9:41
- you will and people hate that
- 9:42
- terminology but that's come on let's go
- 9:44
- with it um because that's essentially
- 9:46
- what it is um he he endorsed kamla
- 9:49
- Harris and that then as you saw Le
- 9:53
- ignited a
- 9:55
- fervor um with the base which donated an
- 9:58
- unprecedent amount of cash within five
- 10:01
- hours $27 million within five hours well
- 10:04
- over 50 million um dollars in counting
- 10:08
- um in the hours after that and then of
- 10:11
- course the consolidation of those three
- 10:14
- classes the the donor class is still
- 10:16
- hanging out there so let's set them
- 10:17
- aside for a moment but the political
- 10:19
- let's set them aside for forever
- 10:23
- right well you know what it's a quick
- 10:25
- sidebar on that you make an excellent
- 10:28
- point because
- 10:30
- what you saw happen after Joe Biden
- 10:33
- stepped aside and and and endorsed kamla
- 10:36
- was what I realized um the strength of
- 10:40
- the party was in 2010 when the donor
- 10:43
- class decided to push me aside and and
- 10:47
- to follow the likes of Carl Rove and and
- 10:50
- others to their to their super packs and
- 10:52
- didn't want to give to the the RNC for
- 10:55
- the first time we set up our own small
- 10:57
- dollar donor program BAS based off of
- 11:00
- Barack Obama's um um effort in his 2008
- 11:05
- and uh campaign um and his Obama for
- 11:09
- America uh campaign where it was largely
- 11:12
- driven by small dollar donors and we
- 11:14
- raised o within 18 months well over $120
- 11:19
- million from small dollar donors to a
- 11:22
- total of 192 million when the big
- 11:24
- dollars came back when they thought oh
- 11:26
- yeah now it looks like we're going to
- 11:27
- win then they showed up but you make a
- 11:30
- good point about the power of small
- 11:32
- dollar donations in driving elections
- 11:35
- and those are the dollars that that
- 11:38
- candidates and campaigns Listen to
- 11:41
- Because when Grandma says here put $20 a
- 11:43
- month on my credit card for your
- 11:45
- campaign that carries a lot more weight
- 11:49
- than um having you know a a a
- 11:52
- multi-billion dollar donor WR you know
- 11:55
- stro strike you a big check why because
- 11:59
- there there's there's only one of those
- 12:00
- multi or three of those multi-million
- 12:02
- doll billion dollar donors there are
- 12:04
- hundreds of thousands of grandmas out
- 12:07
- there uh and they vote and they vote so
- 12:10
- you make an excellent point there and I
- 12:11
- think you saw um that
- 12:15
- consolidation uh happened in a way that
- 12:19
- rejuvenated the the core of the base
- 12:22
- around the idea of winning again not
- 12:24
- that they didn't think they could win
- 12:25
- with Joe Biden but the energy level is
- 12:28
- different because a a number of those
- 12:30
- folks in the Coalition young voters
- 12:32
- Progressive voters um uh are likely now
- 12:36
- to Rally around kamla uh in a way that
- 12:40
- some thought would be a little bit more
- 12:42
- difficult with Joe
- 12:43
- Biden yeah well I mean I think often in
- 12:47
- some ways it's a self-fulfilling
- 12:49
- prophecy if you tell people over and
- 12:50
- over and over again that Joe Biden can't
- 12:52
- win that he's too old that he can't do
- 12:54
- anything then every single thing he says
- 12:56
- and does is going to seem old or
- 12:58
- whatever when
- 12:59
- I kept thinking the contrast between Joe
- 13:02
- Biden and the other presidential
- 13:04
- candidate I mean he's way more
- 13:06
- incoherent he's just as old his policies
- 13:09
- are horrifying it's terrible for women
- 13:12
- it's terrible for immigrants it's
- 13:13
- terrible for the lgbtq community there
- 13:15
- were so many things to run on that
- 13:16
- weren't the man right and so to me it
- 13:20
- seemed like it was a terrible way to
- 13:22
- take him out I thought it was classless
- 13:24
- I thought it was done incredibly poorly
- 13:27
- of course at the end of the day I think
- 13:28
- it is absolutely amazing that Joe Biden
- 13:30
- himself is the one that raised the
- 13:32
- quality in the room the way he left he
- 13:35
- he did it again he brought class back to
- 13:38
- America he allowed us to Rally around I
- 13:41
- I think the whole concept which I think
- 13:43
- we should talk about a little bit later
- 13:44
- of an open convention is idiotic I think
- 13:47
- it is comma period the end let us rally
- 13:50
- let us be excited like you said the
- 13:52
- young people are thrilled I've been
- 13:54
- saying this for years like there's a lot
- 13:55
- of Old Guard people that are like I
- 13:57
- don't know a woman leading us the kids
- 14:00
- they don't feel like that they do not
- 14:02
- feel like that they are absolutely
- 14:04
- jazzed by her and uh and she is a
- 14:07
- Powerhouse and I've been saying that for
- 14:09
- years too if you knew more about her you
- 14:11
- would be less scared of Joe Biden's age
- 14:13
- and now Joe Biden's age is off the table
- 14:16
- and I think the question becomes who who
- 14:19
- who they culminate around her and whom
- 14:22
- because I don't think is another can I
- 14:24
- can I peel back a little bit on a point
- 14:26
- you just made about young voters I I
- 14:28
- think think it's very important there
- 14:31
- let's just let's just set on the table a
- 14:34
- truth that we don't like to acknowledge
- 14:36
- uh about us and by us I mean US country
- 14:39
- is that we are still we are very
- 14:42
- misogynistic um as a nation you saw some
- 14:45
- of that play out at the RNC convention
- 14:48
- where you had that you know sort of um
- 14:51
- you know uh testosterone Laden uh sort
- 14:55
- of
- 14:56
- presentation um that really
- 14:59
- was offensive I mean having it it's a
- 15:02
- man's world be a theme song um it it
- 15:06
- just it's it spoke it spoke to a lot of
- 15:09
- the wrong stuff right in my view well if
- 15:11
- I may Michael this is the most
- 15:13
- anti-woman ticket in American history
- 15:16
- between Trump and Vance they they
- 15:18
- genuinely hate women genuinely have zero
- 15:22
- respect for us and the fact that these
- 15:24
- attitudes are now out here that view
- 15:26
- women um at in a nin a 1950s lens where
- 15:30
- they're at home with an apron waiting
- 15:32
- for hubby to come in so that they can
- 15:35
- you know make them comfortable serve
- 15:37
- them a cocktail before dinner put their
- 15:39
- feet up um the children come in Oh Daddy
- 15:41
- Oh Daddy it's so good to see you I'm so
- 15:44
- glad you're home and he's the quote man
- 15:46
- of the house well that that home never
- 15:49
- existed in America it has never existed
- 15:51
- it was created by uh commercial by ad ad
- 15:55
- gurus in the 1950s it it never existed
- 15:59
- wholesale sale of the American dream
- 16:01
- exactly so you have you have this sort
- 16:03
- of notion of manhood in you know this
- 16:08
- this sort of jacked up
- 16:10
- environment and then you have this this
- 16:12
- this idea about a female candidate
- 16:16
- running for office and how that's viewed
- 16:19
- through those lenses and what's
- 16:21
- interesting about the point you made
- 16:23
- about young voters is go back to
- 16:26
- Hillary's run in 2016
- 16:29
- those young voters who are going to play
- 16:32
- in this cycle were about 13 14 15 years
- 16:37
- old at the time and their numbers were
- 16:40
- not in a way that would have any real
- 16:43
- impact today that's not the case so they
- 16:46
- have they have watched the four years of
- 16:49
- the misogyny the grabing by the pee the
- 16:53
- you know the the the pronouncements by
- 16:55
- Donald Trump against women of color
- 16:58
- women in power uh through whether it's
- 17:02
- an April Ryan in um a press briefing or
- 17:06
- you know any other woman who challenges
- 17:10
- his quote manhood yeah like when he was
- 17:13
- running for president in the first place
- 17:14
- and he said who would listen to that
- 17:16
- face right he's been doing that stuff
- 17:19
- for years calling us pigs and dogs and
- 17:22
- then on top of that you take away our
- 17:24
- rights and I think that young women have
- 17:26
- absolutely freaking had it and I think
- 17:28
- Young men understand enough that this is
- 17:30
- not the world that they mostly want to
- 17:32
- live in either unless they are weak men
- 17:34
- who uh can't live in a world in which
- 17:37
- equality exists and that's its own
- 17:39
- incell community and that steroid and
- 17:42
- you know latent
- 17:44
- testosterone is is uh what is prevalent
- 17:48
- on the right those young women and men
- 17:54
- are now 18 19 years old and they will be
- 17:58
- V voting for the first time for
- 18:00
- president and I think having someone
- 18:03
- like a kamla Harris at the top of the
- 18:05
- ticket on the Democratic side does
- 18:08
- change this landscape considerably
- 18:10
- because those voters those younger
- 18:12
- voters don't come into the game with
- 18:15
- those 1950 views that were passed down
- 18:19
- generationally and that still permeate
- 18:21
- at some level with some of the some of
- 18:23
- their cohorts as a matter of fact
- 18:25
- because they grew up in these households
- 18:27
- and that d damic I think is going to be
- 18:30
- one that's going to be very interesting
- 18:31
- to watch um play out both along the
- 18:34
- lines of race and along the lines of
- 18:38
- gender and since they both culminate
- 18:41
- with kamla U and by the way folks on the
- 18:44
- right on my party learn how to say her
- 18:46
- name because we get the gaslighting that
- 18:50
- you're doing when you call her something
- 18:52
- other than her name is it's Kamala all
- 18:56
- right put the accent on the right
- 18:58
- salable you'll be okay um so the the
- 19:02
- realities are have changed the Dynamics
- 19:05
- of this race in the last 18 hours where
- 19:09
- if you go on social media Trump you know
- 19:12
- rage tweeting at two in the morning
- 19:14
- tells you he's he's this hurts he he
- 19:18
- doesn't know what to do with this and we
- 19:21
- can get into whether not there'll be a
- 19:23
- debate I don't think there will be how
- 19:25
- this is going to play out in terms of
- 19:27
- who she ultimately picked
- 19:29
- to go up against JD Vance uh I think
- 19:31
- that will be an important decision but
- 19:34
- just what Joe bidon did in placing his
- 19:37
- inomata on her candidacy for the
- 19:40
- presidency changed the trajectory of
- 19:42
- this race I completely agree I
- 19:45
- completely agree with that and I have to
- 19:47
- say it was very hopeful seeing the
- 19:49
- amount of people who rallied around the
- 19:51
- idea because I have always loved her I
- 19:53
- know the young people love her but it
- 19:54
- was great to see you know party chairs
- 19:57
- uh delegates from different states
- 19:59
- anyone that might have been an absolute
- 20:01
- competitor for her right away coming out
- 20:03
- to endorse her I thought these were
- 20:05
- really good things let's just quickly
- 20:06
- back it up so people understand um as
- 20:09
- much as most of us wanted and this the
- 20:12
- ticket doesn't automatically go to uh
- 20:15
- vice president kamla Harris so correct
- 20:18
- me if I'm wrong but I'm just going to
- 20:19
- say this is what is going to happen now
- 20:21
- the Democratic party can either hold
- 20:23
- what's called a mini primary um in the
- 20:25
- next few weeks where lots of different
- 20:27
- people throw their hat in the ring and
- 20:30
- most likely the party officials not the
- 20:31
- voters would decide who the nominee
- 20:33
- would be or everyone rallies around the
- 20:35
- same candidate that person goes into the
- 20:37
- Convention as the deao nominee which is
- 20:39
- what I think is happening now with comma
- 20:42
- or they wait until the convention and
- 20:44
- they have all the delegates released
- 20:46
- from their responsibility to vote for
- 20:48
- Biden Harris um and then the delegates
- 20:50
- would vote for their choice which would
- 20:52
- be considered an open convention uh we
- 20:55
- would not have consensus on that first
- 20:57
- vote so then we would have a second vote
- 20:59
- which would include uh what are called
- 21:01
- superdelegates which the party leaders
- 21:03
- come in the Republicans don't have
- 21:05
- superdelegates the Democrats do and they
- 21:07
- would be joining in the votes and then
- 21:09
- it would be more of a brokered
- 21:10
- convention sense where the powers that
- 21:12
- be kind of got to make a bunch of
- 21:15
- consolidations and backro Deals and who
- 21:17
- they thought would have the best chance
- 21:18
- when they put their votes into the Hat
- 21:20
- regardless of all how how all this
- 21:22
- happens the new nominee will be chosen
- 21:26
- officially at the Democratic Convention
- 21:28
- in Chicago which starts on August 19th
- 21:31
- now did I get that incorrect what are
- 21:33
- your thoughts on you got that right I I
- 21:35
- would just uh flesh out so people know
- 21:38
- what a who a superdelegate is a
- 21:40
- superdelegate are elected officials
- 21:42
- basically it's the
- 21:44
- governor right former actually is in
- 21:47
- there people like that so there's about
- 21:49
- 400 of those um there are 700
- 21:52
- approximately 700 uncommitted uh
- 21:55
- delegates which is a big number um
- 21:59
- Joe Biden has about
- 22:01
- 3980 some some number like that of the
- 22:04
- delegates um which is well more than he
- 22:08
- than he needs yeah it's a vast majority
- 22:10
- it's about 88% of the delegates right so
- 22:12
- so in the three scenarios that you laid
- 22:15
- out the first one uh where the party
- 22:18
- officials decide who um the uh
- 22:22
- individual be that's largely a brokered
- 22:24
- convention that's sort of the back room
- 22:26
- everybody kind of Brokers a deal to to
- 22:28
- put someone forward and it's the old
- 22:31
- school way of doing it when people think
- 22:32
- of like old men in back rooms cigar
- 22:34
- chomping deciding on who it's going to
- 22:36
- be right and the third way you described
- 22:38
- it where it's much more of an open
- 22:41
- free-for-all no one's committed to
- 22:43
- anyone Joe Biden's released his
- 22:46
- delegates and they're just kind of free
- 22:47
- to roam the range until they decide
- 22:50
- where they land and then in that process
- 22:53
- you may have some brokering um that
- 22:56
- occurs uh to sort of narrow and control
- 22:59
- um the flow of things those two
- 23:02
- scenarios are
- 23:05
- problematic um in the first uh the
- 23:08
- delegates don't have a role to play the
- 23:10
- 14 million uh citizens who voted in the
- 23:12
- primaries are largely ignored that
- 23:15
- creates a a real problem for the party
- 23:20
- because of the way the Democrats are
- 23:23
- structurally organized and and
- 23:25
- emotionally connected to the process it
- 23:28
- would be a mess the third scenario is
- 23:31
- also a mess because you can't control it
- 23:34
- uh then it's everybody in the pool kamla
- 23:37
- is no different than than uh Pete Buddha
- 23:40
- judge in terms of elect viability and
- 23:43
- electability among the delegates and
- 23:46
- that just turns into a free-for-all that
- 23:49
- you don't you can't control and you
- 23:50
- don't know how many days it's going to
- 23:52
- go Etc and they all end up attacking
- 23:55
- each other and we do damage to ourselves
- 23:56
- ex exactly the the the middle route is
- 23:59
- where this is likely to land and makes
- 24:01
- the most sense where Joe Biden and you
- 24:05
- see this already by his placing his
- 24:08
- hands on her you already have now five
- 24:11
- states I think maybe six states that
- 24:14
- have already announced that their
- 24:17
- delegation of delegates are all voting
- 24:21
- for kamla Harris so they've committed
- 24:24
- their delegates going into the process
- 24:27
- um uh to
- 24:29
- there's also under DNC rules they're
- 24:32
- going to be hosting I believe on the 7th
- 24:36
- 7th of um August somewhere around there
- 24:40
- a um a a basically a nominating process
- 24:45
- a virtual nominating process and in that
- 24:48
- process that's where those delegates
- 24:51
- that Joe Biden has are going to transfer
- 24:55
- to uh kamla and that process is what
- 24:58
- you're seeing happen lay out already by
- 25:01
- those States coming out early and saying
- 25:03
- hey we're committing to kamla our 13
- 25:06
- delegates our 27 delegates our 50
- 25:09
- delegates whatever the number is so
- 25:11
- she's already now got committed to her
- 25:14
- delegates going into that and likely
- 25:16
- you'll see uh lee over the next uh three
- 25:19
- to five days more States go down that
- 25:22
- pathway and so she'll walk into that
- 25:24
- convention probably with all the
- 25:26
- delegates she'll need on the first
- 25:28
- ballot yeah I think that's great and I
- 25:30
- think the other thing we have to know is
- 25:31
- that KLA Harris is the only person that
- 25:34
- would have full access to the money
- 25:36
- that's already been raised for the Biden
- 25:38
- campaign because of campaign Finance
- 25:41
- rules she's already on that ticket and
- 25:44
- it's at least $100 million and that's
- 25:46
- not including the money that was raised
- 25:47
- the day that she announced she would be
- 25:49
- running if Biden has stepped down and he
- 25:51
- endorses her she has full access to that
- 25:53
- money which is a very necessary thing to
- 25:55
- run a campaign and if the nominee ended
- 25:57
- up being some and else that person would
- 25:59
- not have access to that money they would
- 26:01
- most likely have to start their
- 26:02
- fundraising from scratch I don't know
- 26:03
- how the de Democrats would plan to get
- 26:05
- money back to people who had donated to
- 26:07
- what they would do what they would do
- 26:09
- there is that's Federal dollar those are
- 26:11
- federal dollars and they're very
- 26:13
- stringent uh restrictions on how those
- 26:15
- dollars can be used and who can use them
- 26:18
- and how they're applied so if for
- 26:21
- example he did not transfer that money
- 26:25
- to KLA in other words he didn't want her
- 26:28
- to have it or however that may work out
- 26:31
- those dollars would go to the DNC and
- 26:33
- then the DNC would be further restricted
- 26:36
- in how it could allocate those money so
- 26:39
- to your initial point that $100 million
- 26:42
- for any other candidate would be wholly
- 26:46
- unaccessible and to the extent that they
- 26:48
- get any of it what they would get would
- 26:50
- come from the DNC and it would be a very
- 26:52
- very small portion compared to the100
- 26:54
- million that kamla would get by virtue
- 26:57
- of already being named on that account
- 27:00
- under Biden uh Harris what they did and
- 27:03
- you saw this yesterday they went back
- 27:06
- amended their FEC their Federal Election
- 27:09
- Commission forms to take off Joe Biden
- 27:13
- so Biden Harris 2024 is now Harris fill
- 27:17
- in the blank to be determined 2024 and
- 27:21
- soon as that VP is identified their
- 27:24
- names will be add a form will be further
- 27:26
- amended to add that individual's name so
- 27:30
- that is the chain of custody for that
- 27:31
- money from Biden to Harris all within
- 27:36
- the FEC rules so when you hear
- 27:39
- Republicans out here talking about some
- 27:41
- violation of the FEC law the idea that
- 27:45
- because Joe Biden has decided not to run
- 27:48
- he now must resign the presidency
- 27:51
- because he was
- 27:53
- not Michael it's so ridiculous I I mean
- 27:57
- come on it's he he didn't he's just like
- 28:01
- hey I'm not going to run for a second
- 28:02
- term there's no rule that says you have
- 28:03
- to run for a second term or step down as
- 28:05
- president in fact it is better now you
- 28:08
- have a man fullon running the country
- 28:11
- not distracted at all dealing with the
- 28:13
- problems of America a man being the
- 28:15
- president and a woman running for the
- 28:17
- president those are two completely
- 28:18
- different jobs and guess what we
- 28:20
- actually are in a better situation the
- 28:22
- idea that he would have to step down the
- 28:25
- idea I'm sorry your old party has lost
- 28:27
- it completely but let me tell you you
- 28:30
- know what 25th
- 28:33
- amendment but let me tell you why
- 28:35
- they're so stupid so let me get this
- 28:38
- straight you want Joe Biden to now step
- 28:41
- down as president thereby making K har
- 28:46
- the president so now you've just given
- 28:49
- the country the first black female
- 28:51
- president right so she's not longer
- 28:54
- she's no longer running as a candidate
- 28:56
- she's running as the cumbent president
- 28:59
- for election to the office you think
- 29:03
- that's a better
- 29:04
- plan just so stupid support for today's

- about it yet I wanted to tell you about
- 32:42
- the great new podcast from my friends at
- 32:44
- career called Vibes only I love this
- 32:47
- podcast and I love the concept because
- 32:49
- it's true we can all talk about politics
- 32:51
- all day long but it also comes down to
- 32:53
- how we generally feel about politics or
- 32:55
- the state of the country in other words
- 32:57
- words The Vibes co-hosted by Brian Derek
- 33:01
- and glennis muhar Vibes only checks the
- 33:04
- political Vibes every week it's like
- 33:06
- having your funniest friends break down
- 33:07
- the need to know political news but in a
- 33:09
- way that doesn't make you want to tear
- 33:11
- your hair out like we've all wanted to
- 33:12
- do you know this past week leading up to
- 33:15
- critical elections where democracy is on
- 33:17
- the line there has never been a better
- 33:19
- time to listen or subscribe to Vibes
- 33:20
- only and you can do that wherever you
- 33:22
- get your podcast check it out because
- 33:25
- those Courier people really have our
- 33:27
- backs when comes to truth and facts
- 33:30
- Vibes
- 33:31
- only so fixated on race and gender and
- 33:36
- and so fixated on on this idea of
- 33:40
- somehow getting rid of Joe Biden
- 33:42
- thinking they're going to mix up the the
- 33:45
- process and make it harder they lose
- 33:48
- sight of the fact that what they're
- 33:49
- asking for will actually make it easier
- 33:51
- for her because yeah if Joe Biden
- 33:53
- resigns as president she becomes a
- 33:55
- president she appoints a vice president
- 33:57
- and mov on so then she goes into the
- 33:59
- Convention as an incumbent president
- 34:01
- running for election
- 34:03
- hello the country now will see you think
- 34:06
- that's a worse situation for the country
- 34:09
- so it's it's just I don't I don't
- 34:11
- understand how they how they rationalize
- 34:13
- these things but yeah it makes you kind
- 34:14
- of fall out laugh because it's so so
- 34:16
- stupid well I think honestly the the
- 34:19
- Republicans in many cases uh because
- 34:22
- their hate and their bigotry is so
- 34:25
- strong it often blinds them from proper
- 34:27
- decision-making I think you know what
- 34:29
- happened with row it was the dog that
- 34:31
- caught the car I feel like what happened
- 34:32
- with this it's the dog that caught the
- 34:34
- car I saw Steven Miller and measur
- 34:36
- against like kellyan Conway losing it on
- 34:40
- television yesterday literally losing it
- 34:42
- talking about how it's so unfair to
- 34:44
- Democratic primary voters that they're
- 34:46
- going to get disenfranchised and I was
- 34:47
- like your entire plan for the election
- 34:49
- of 2024 not to mention the entire plan
- 34:52
- for the election of 2020 was to
- 34:54
- disenfranchise all voters and definitely
- 34:57
- Democrat they wanted to disenfranchise
- 34:59
- voters in Detroit in 2020 I mean just
- 35:02
- throw the votes away and in Philadelphia
- 35:05
- wherever there were large black
- 35:06
- population centers in 2020 Kelly Conway
- 35:10
- and her ilk were running around talking
- 35:12
- about those votes needed to be
- 35:14
- discounted because it was clearly fraud
- 35:17
- in the black community that supported
- 35:20
- the the Democratic candidate so we can't
- 35:22
- we we have to Discount those votes so
- 35:25
- don't come crying to me about your
- 35:26
- concern for the 14 million Democrats who
- 35:29
- voted in the in the primary for Joe
- 35:32
- Biden being disenfranchised those folks
- 35:34
- are good they like the outcome here
- 35:36
- trust me they're okay well also those
- 35:38
- folks those folks you know like I'm one
- 35:40
- of those folks and those folks voted for
- 35:42
- a Biden Harris ticket if Harris remains
- on the ticket we got what we wanted in
- many cases so like what other tricks do
- you think the Republicans have up their
- sleeve because I think we need to tell
- people who are worried there is no legal
- reason uh whatsoever to keep the
- Democratic ticket off the ballot Biden
- is making decisions now which looks like
- 36:00
- it gives them plenty of time to get in
- all 50 states at the earliest deadline
- appears to be August 21st which is
- Montana and Oklahoma I know that speaker
- Johnson and The Heritage Foundation are
- already talking about legal challenges
- there are definitely 50 pieces to this
- puzzle with 50 different states having
- 36:17
- 50 different um ideas there was a lot of
- 36:19
- talk about Georgia recently um and just
- 36:21
- so people understand Biden dropping out
- 36:24
- will not impact Georgia ballots if the
- 36:27
- Democrats have uh their convention
- 36:29
- there's no nominee to replace it looks
- 36:31
- like it's going to be comma and if it
- 36:33
- isn't comma um Trump fans are going to
- 36:35
- be on the ticket in in Georgia along
- 36:37
- with Oliver for the Libertarians Jill
- 36:40
- Stein for the greens and also
- 36:43
- potentially Cornell West RFK and Claudia
- 36:45
- Dilla Cruz who are having their
- 36:47
- signatures reviewed so just FYI Georgia
- 36:49
- you might have seven presidential
- 36:50
- candidates on your ballot and the only
- 36:52
- ticket really to vote for is the
- 36:54
- Democrats or you're going to get Donald
- 36:55
- Trump so I would be very careful with a
- 36:57
- third party vote right now but what else
- 36:59
- do you think your party has up its
- 37:01
- sleeves um to screw with the Democratic
- 37:03
- ticket that I think that that's an
- 37:05
- important piece and and there gets into
- 37:07
- questions of you know standing and
- 37:10
- whether or not Republicans have any
- 37:11
- standing to complain about what H what
- 37:14
- the Democrats decide to do with their
- 37:18
- with their ballots that if you know a
- 37:20
- Democrat decides to make that case
- 37:22
- that's a different conversation but a
- 37:24
- lot of that is just noise and uh sign
- 37:27
- signifying uh stupidity U by Republicans
- 37:30
- and thinking that people are going to
- 37:32
- fall for that the other thing I think is
- 37:34
- important to understand though is can I
- 37:37
- just cut you off for for a second there
- 37:38
- people are going to fall for that I
- 37:39
- think the biggest concern for people is
- 37:41
- that it's not that that there isn't
- 37:44
- legal standing to put whoever the
- 37:46
- Democrats Democrats haven't even had
- 37:47
- their convention yet they should be able
- 37:48
- to say here are our nominees they're
- 37:50
- going on the ballot there should be no
- 37:52
- legal challenge I think people's concern
- 37:54
- is that of course that makes sense
- 37:57
- except we live in a world with the fifth
- 37:59
- circuit with um what's her name down in
- 38:01
- Florida with the Supreme Court the way
- 38:03
- it is and we go hey man uh justice isn't
- 38:06
- what it's supposed to be it's not about
- 38:08
- what's fair what's legal what's
- 38:10
- Justified it's what the Republicans can
- 38:12
- get the judge to say and I think that's
- 38:14
- what people are concerned about um
- 38:16
- because of course there's legal standing
- 38:18
- to have the the Democratic candidate on
- 38:20
- the ballot our question is will it get
- 38:22
- up to the Supreme Court where Clarence
- 38:24
- and Alo are like yeah you know what like
- 38:27
- actually the Democrats don't get on the
- 38:29
- ballot in Ohio or Wisconsin or Nevada
- 38:32
- you know like is that a possibility I
- 38:34
- think that's what I'm not going to lie
- 38:36
- to you yeah it is I mean there's there's
- 38:38
- no there's no telling which direction
- 38:42
- this could fall um if legal challenges
- 38:45
- are are pursued and then you get into
- 38:49
- the appeals process based off of the
- 38:52
- decision if a lower court says you know
- 38:55
- Republicans get the hell out of here
- 38:57
- then they appeal up to uh the particular
- 39:00
- circuit and then then there may be some
- 39:01
- Forum Shopping meaning they'll look for
- 39:03
- a more favorable circuit to go to um and
- 39:07
- and then yeah you could see this stair
- 39:09
- step up to the Supreme Court uh I think
- 39:12
- though in the main that's likely not
- 39:15
- going to happen uh with respect to the
- 39:18
- ballot challenges because as long as as
- 39:22
- long as the Democrats with this change
- 39:24
- over make their deadlines yeah fast they
- 39:27
- have to do it fast right they have to do
- 39:29
- it fast but as long as that happens
- 39:31
- that's why they're doing the virtual
- 39:33
- nominating process like they did under
- 39:36
- in 20 with Co like you saw the
- 39:39
- Republicans do it on the first night
- 39:40
- when they got into the convention hall
- 39:43
- Democrats know because of the the
- 39:45
- timeliness the 21st of August being one
- 39:48
- of the first states where you've got to
- 39:49
- have everything locked in to get that
- 39:52
- done sooner so if there are any issues
- 39:54
- you can get them cleaned up before the
- 39:56
- 21st of August um especially since a
- 39:59
- handful of states start voting in early
- 40:02
- to mid-september correct that's correct
- 40:05
- and so that's a big part of it but the
- 40:06
- other side of this uh I think is it's
- 40:10
- not so much what the Republican party is
- 40:13
- doing folks need to pay closer attention
- 40:16
- to what their state and local Boards of
- 40:18
- elections are are and how they're
- 40:21
- preparing because what we had did not
- 40:24
- pay a lot of attention to since 2022
- 40:28
- um and certainly since 24 at the
- 40:30
- presidential level is the number of Maga
- 40:33
- who are now on these boards and who have
- 40:36
- now uh you know are members of these
- 40:39
- boards who will gum up works there was a
- 40:42
- strategic decision made after 20 to make
- 40:46
- sure to have in place people who would
- 40:50
- be more friendly to them that happened
- 40:53
- at the Electoral level meaning Boards of
- 40:55
- Elections as well as the judicial there
- 40:57
- are a lot more Eileen cannons out there
- 41:00
- than we may realize um that were
- 41:02
- appointed wholly
- 41:04
- incompetent individuals serving on the
- 41:07
- judicial bench who are there and would
- 41:10
- would more like we've seen with e Canon
- 41:12
- which you know many of us were saying
- 41:14
- from the very first moments of this
- 41:15
- trial uh on these documents that her
- 41:19
- whole game plan was going to be Trump
- 41:21
- aligned and she would slow roll this
- 41:23
- thing for as long as she could and then
- 41:26
- Clarence Thomas gave her the one little
- 41:29
- platform in in a dissenting opinion it
- 41:31
- wasn't even a majority opinion um in a
- 41:35
- footnote uh in that opinion that oh well
- 41:39
- you know the special counsel probably is
- 41:41
- illegal well that's all I need to know
- 41:43
- case dismissed so yeah we we have to be
- 41:47
- much more Vigilant because the rot is
- 41:49
- real the corruption is ongoing um and so
- 41:53
- the process of this election is not just
- 41:57
- a about the head-to-head between KLA and
- 41:59
- Trump but now also what we see playing
- 42:03
- out uh at ballot boxes down down ballot
- 42:06
- and certainly with the counting of votes
- 42:09
- and things like that there was a reason
- 42:11
- why they bragged about having
- 42:13
- 50,000 uh poll Watchers poll Watchers um
- 42:18
- and election officials in strategic
- 42:21
- Battleground locations precincts to make
- 42:24
- sure they have a hand in getting the
- 42:27
- outcome they want the cheating is not
- 42:30
- coming as in all the cases that have
- 42:32
- been prosecuted for cheating the vast
- 42:35
- majority of those who've been caught
- 42:36
- have been Republicans trying to cheat
- 42:38
- the system in the 22 cycle in the 20
- 42:41
- Cycle in the 16 cycle Etc uh heritage's
- 42:45
- own study of election fraud in this
- 42:48
- country get this between
- 42:52
- 2003 and
- 42:54
- 2023 20year span right
- 42:57
- of election fraud how many cases did
- 42:59
- they identify 1,800 how many of those
- 43:02
- were actually prosecuted about half how
- 43:05
- many of those led to convictions about a
- 43:08
- third in other words out of all the
- 43:11
- elections between 2020 2003 and 2023 you
- 43:16
- have 18 identifiable prosecutable cases
- 43:20
- of fraud what does that tell you about
- 43:22
- our election system it's very safe very
- 43:25
- safe so watch for those things to happen
- 43:29
- pay attention to uh what your boards of
- 43:32
- elections are doing the people who are
- 43:34
- showing up on Election Day all those
- 43:37
- things will matter in this cycle because
- 43:40
- I I fear A disruption of the process
- 43:44
- intimidation to disrupt the process to
- 43:48
- cause the delay in processing of votes
- 43:51
- will certainly be the order of the day
- 43:53
- this has always been the plan this has
- 43:55
- always been the plan whether it was Joe
- 43:56
- Biden or K harrris the plan was election
- 43:59
- suppression you know then election
- 44:02
- vigilantism you know going to those
- 44:03
- dropboxes in Arizona with your gun and
- 44:05
- intimidating people intimidating poll
- 44:07
- workers making sure people don't want to
- 44:09
- work at the polls um uh challenging
- 44:13
- votes after they've been made signature
- 44:15
- matching you know being really Vigilant
- 44:17
- with what kind of ID counts this has
- 44:20
- always been the plan and it doesn't
- 44:22
- matter who the Democratic candidate is
- 44:23
- the Republican plan is to stop people
- 44:26
- from voting or stop votes from Counting
- 44:28
- not to win more votes and win hearts and
- 44:30
- Minds it has always been to get less
- 44:33
- votes so before I have you go I just
- 44:35
- would love to know your thoughts on
- 44:38
- because I believe the candidate is kamla
- 44:40
- so who do you think should run with her
- 44:42
- who do you think adds the most to the
- 44:44
- ticket and what are your thoughts on the
- 44:46
- potential running so I have I have two
- 44:50
- uh two favors retired Admiral mccraven
- 44:54
- who is well regarded um not just in
- 44:59
- military circles but in civilian circles
- 45:02
- as well and um having having sort of a
- 45:07
- military uh guy W with with her I think
- 45:11
- uh Shores up some you know foreign
- 45:14
- policy concerns people have although
- 45:16
- you've got to admit that she has done a
- 45:19
- good job um in handling her assignments
- 45:24
- overseas um yeah no she's had a Master
- 45:26
- Class International Affairs over the
- 45:28
- past four years yeah she really has and
- 45:31
- and I think that's made a difference for
- 45:33
- a lot of a lot of folks um to watch her
- 45:36
- kind of step into that space uh sitting
- 45:39
- at the table with heads of States I mean
- 45:41
- even during the recent NATO meetings uh
- 45:44
- she met um she had what they call
- 45:47
- bilateral uh conversations with a number
- 45:50
- of heads of States um and and I think
- 45:53
- that that made um uh a real impression
- 45:57
- on a lot of the the foreign heads of
- 45:59
- States um but I I think someone like you
- 46:02
- know a fourstar Admiral uh like mccraven
- 46:06
- uh who again straddles both spaces he's
- 46:09
- got mad respect on Capitol Hill he's got
- 46:12
- mad respect um among civilian uh
- 46:15
- operations around the the country the
- 46:18
- business Community they are familiar
- 46:20
- with him he was uh the commander of the
- 46:23
- US Special Operations and and so he has
- 46:26
- a a a large overview of how government
- 46:30
- and military operations align and work
- 46:33
- and of course has great uh respect and
- 46:35
- regard overseas so that's a possibility
- 46:37
- if they're looking for a military figure
- 46:40
- but I think my favorite uh would be
- 46:42
- Senator Mark
- 46:44
- Kelly um I like Mark Kelly a lot uh
- 46:47
- Gabby gford his wife um just so people
- 46:50
- know Senator Mark Kelly is the senator
- 46:52
- from Arizona senator from Arizona he was
- 46:54
- an astronaut astronaut um his wife is a
- 46:58
- is a friend of mine uh we we are Rodell
- 47:02
- fellows together um in fact in her first
- 47:05
- year um in Rodell with us uh she was
- 47:08
- shot while campaigning um for election
- 47:12
- and um severely wounded survived
- 47:15
- thankfully and has been uh a staunch
- 47:18
- Advocate with respect to gun violence um
- 47:21
- and certainly the attempt on her life
- 47:23
- the the the Congressional baseball game
- 47:27
- shooting um in which uh representative
- 47:30
- uh scalise um was wounded um and number
- 47:35
- of instances of political violence
- 47:39
- having her being a part of that Tableau
- 47:43
- of the President and Vice President I
- 47:45
- think uh levels up those conversations
- 47:47
- and certainly Senator Mark Kelly Arizona
- 47:51
- important state um Battleground State
- 47:54
- certainly astronaut again tied to the
- 47:58
- military and and foreign policy it also
- 48:01
- gives us a classic white American hero
- 48:03
- story which people do love no matter how
- 48:06
- far we go down the road to uh equality
- 48:09
- and uh our country still has a lot of
- 48:12
- misogyny and it still has a lot of
- 48:13
- racism so having a white male uh
- 48:16
- American hero on the ticket does not
- 48:18
- hurt still matters so I I those are my
- 48:21
- favorite you know I I like Governor uh
- 48:24
- Basher of of Kentucky um and he's done a
- 48:27
- a phenomenal job getting elected as a
- 48:29
- democrat in Kentucky as no small feat so
- 48:32
- he brings um some bonafides Kentuck is
- 48:35
- not a Battleground it doesn't and it
- 48:36
- certainly doesn't mean that uh Democrats
- 48:39
- would now win Kentucky with him on the
- 48:41
- ticket but what it what he does is help
- 48:43
- with the middle of the country uh and he
- 48:46
- does help in in some areas um where
- 48:49
- there are center right Independence um
- 48:53
- um and sort of right leaning Democrats
- 48:57
- that they could take some comfort uh in
- 48:59
- the ticket you know Kamala being from
- 49:01
- California there's immediate projection
- 49:03
- of how Progressive she is um and she is
- 49:06
- Progressive she's certainly more
- 49:07
- Progressive than than um uh Joe Biden
- 49:11
- but not at the same level as you know um
- 49:15
- you know an yeah exactly um permil who
- 49:20
- by the way is behind kamla who is behind
- 49:23
- right and and so and that's an important
- 49:25
- Point um Le because the progressives in
- 49:28
- the house um aocc premila Jaa they've
- 49:31
- aligned they've aligned themselves
- 49:33
- behind kamla so that's that's an
- 49:35
- important coming together of that uh
- 49:38
- faction within the Democratic party so
- 49:41
- those would be my choices I think um you
- 49:44
- know at this moment we'll see where
- 49:47
- where that ball bounces but I think a
- 49:49
- military figure like a mccraven and or
- 49:52
- someone like a governor Basher or a
- 49:55
- senator Mark Kelly um covers a a lot of
- 50:00
- important basis for yeah I can see that
- 50:03
- you know people are talking to about
- 50:04
- Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro
- 50:07
- Illinois governor JB pritzer right uh
- 50:09
- North Carolina governor boy Cooper but
- 50:11
- there is part of me even Michigan
- 50:12
- Governor Gretchen Whitmer although I
- 50:14
- think the country is too misogynistic
- 50:15
- for that but I would love to see it but
- 50:18
- uh you know you got to be practical um
- 50:20
- but I I would love to see someone that
- 50:21
- didn't take away a role from a democrat
- 50:24
- in an important state I would love to
- 50:25
- see Andy basher stay as governor of
- 50:27
- Kentucky I would love to see these
- 50:29
- people stay as the governors of their
- 50:31
- state they're doing great jobs those are
- 50:32
- important roles I would love to see
- 50:34
- people not lose uh those seats um to the
- 50:37
- VP position so I think uh mccraven is
- 50:40
- actually a very interesting someone I
- 50:41
- hadn't even thought of so at at the end
- 50:44
- of the day it seems like everyone is
- 50:45
- getting behind kamla which I think is
- 50:46
- good if we're talking about who her VP
- 50:48
- pick is then we're not talking about
- 50:50
- having some sort of weird open contested
- 50:52
- convention um every state party so far
- 50:55
- the unions EMILY's List most potential
- 50:57
- competitors Nome shift budha judge
- 50:59
- Warren AOC they're all behind her like
- 51:01
- you said the delegates from a bunch of
- 51:03
- states are already saying we're on her
- 51:04
- team she's going to walk into that
- 51:06
- convention with probably enough
- 51:07
- delegates even a Nikki Haley pack is
- 51:09
- behind her now which is like Yay let's
- 51:11
- do that right so as you said you know
- 51:14
- may you live in interesting times it is
- 51:17
- not a hopeful comment but it is what we
- 51:20
- are living through and as they say on
- 51:22
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney
- 51:24
- hold on to your hats and glasses because
- 51:26
- it's going to be a bumpy ride so thank
- 51:29
- you so much for joining me today Michael
- 51:31
- You Are My Pal and I really appreciate
- 51:34
- it because I went from fetal position to
- 51:37
- Powerhouse position and now I'm back in
- 51:39
- calm let's get her done land that's it
- 51:42
- this time to get her done folks I mean
- 51:43
- look I I get the emotional roller
- 51:45
- coaster we've been on but throughout
- 51:47
- that entire time my view was the the end
- 51:50
- of the line that's what you need to get
- 51:52
- to that it's going to require work it's
- 51:54
- going to require a higher level of for
- 51:57
- fortitude because we know what's coming
- 51:58
- after KLA we know we know what's going
- 52:00
- to be coming let's let's brace forward
- 52:03
- and push back up against it um and carry
- 52:06
- her across the Finish Line in
- 52:08
- November yeah let's do that let's
- 52:10
- actually just hoist her across that
- 52:12
- Finish Line she is gonna i c I think we
- 52:14
- could kill this and it could be so
- 52:16
- exciting for the entire country yeah
- 52:19
- it's GNA be it's it's going to be a good
- 52:21
- I think it's a more interesting campaign
- 52:23
- now because the idea uh for a lot of lot
- 52:26
- of Americans of having two candidates
- 52:28
- that they don't like because of their
- 52:29
- age or whatever reason a lot of that
- 52:32
- breaks breaks away Donald Trump is now
- 52:34
- the oldest person to ever run for
- 52:36
- president um he's 78 Joe Biden by the
- 52:39
- way was 77 when he did it so um so now
- 52:43
- he's the oldest candidate in this race
- 52:45
- uh who certainly has mental and other
- 52:48
- Acuity issues uh that uh I think are
- 52:51
- important for the New York Times to
- 52:53
- focus some of its its ink on since they
- 52:56
- refused to do it up to this point um and
- 52:59
- other outlets out there so look the
- 53:01
- Dynamics have changed the conversation
- 53:04
- is changed and we have no one other than
- 53:08
- Joe Biden to thank for that and he put
- 53:10
- the country before anything else we know
- 53:13
- Donald Trump would never do that and I
- 53:16
- think the country now should should
- 53:18
- repay that gratitude by paying
- 53:21
- attention uh and
- 53:24
- voting that's it that's it my friend
- 53:27
- pragmatism practicality and patriotism
- 53:30
- there you go so that was Michael steel
- 53:33
- reminding us to pay attention to what
- 53:35
- happens now that the Brave and Noble
- 53:37
- decision for Joe Biden to step down for
- 53:39
- the good of the country has changed the
- 53:41
- game the base might be justifiably angry
- 53:44
- at how it was done but we can respect
- 53:46
- our president enough to take his lead
- 53:48
- and honor his choice and elect his
- 53:50
- chosen successor kamla Harris despite
- 53:53
- the chaos Biden's decision lands us in a
- 53:55
- better place running against the
- 53:57
- Republicans it's a prosecutor running
- 53:59
- against a felon a young leader against
- 54:01
- an old one a woman against a womanizer
- 54:04
- and the American dream versus American
- Carnage I want to thank Michael for
- joining me today and you for caring
- enough about democracy to be here now
- stay in the game donate register voters
- and for this country's sake vote this is
- our game to lose now and I certainly
- don't plan to lose it until next
