This video related to the Remembrance Day event in the UK at the Cenotaph in Whitehall is very thought provoking for me.
I have no recollection of a similar event of this scale at any time in the past. This may be because I am getting older and forget, or it may be that TV technology is better or some other factor ... but the scale is impressive and the impact on me has been profound.
The Royal Family in the UK is in many ways very impressive. King Charles, in my view is impressive ... and I am a fan of Princess Margaret who is an impressive hard-working Royal.
This event took place on Sunday, November 10th 2024.
Another Remembrance Day event ... a Veterans Day event ... took place in my community in the USA. It was relatively small, but equally moving.
In both cases, I was struck by the age profile of the participants ... it seemed that almost everyone involved was over 50 years old, with almost no young adult civilians participating. This is bad news ... but is not remarked on very much in the prevailing modern media. The majority of the modern media organizations seem to be involved in a pur money making business activity with no greater purpose ... a formula or framing that is problematice and very different from my understanding of 'responsibility' when I was young some 60+ years ago.
Many of the young people who serve in the military 'get it' ... but relatively few young people now serve any time in the military and they appear to be 'entitled, angry and unmotivated' in a way that is very disturbing. In the USA, suicide by young people is at record levels ... this is insane and suggests a tragic breakdown in akk the elements of bringing up young people in the modern 'rich' world.
Both 'sad' and 'dangerous'.
And in the USA ... now aggravated by the election of Donald Trump to be the 47th President of the USA!
